Live Poll: R.I.P. Tom Noonan - A Life in Film

Intro:

In memory of Tom Noonan (April 12, 1951 - February 14, 2026), American actor, director, and writer. Over the course of a decades-long career, he brought a singular presence to the screen, portraying complex and often unsettling characters with intelligence, restraint, and emotional precision. Beyond his work as a performer, he was also a filmmaker and storyteller dedicated to thoughtful, character-driven projects. As we reflect on his artistic legacy, we also think of the loss felt by his family, friends, colleagues, and audiences who valued his craft and integrity. This poll invites respectful remembrance of the impact he made on film, television, and those who worked alongside him. What stands out most to you when reflecting on Tom Noonan's legacy? Please discuss it here. For slideshow please click here.

Hi Breu, I always thought Noonan was quite a skilled and interesting actor who was in some very good  films so I'm glad that you made this poll.  His performances in 'Manhunter,' 'Synecdoche, New York,' and 'Anomalisa' really stand out to me so I guess I'd vote for "his supporting roles in ambitious ensemble or arthouse films."

The poll's intro is really good; I do have a few suggestions for edits:

"In memory of Tom Noonan (April 12, 1951 - February 14, 2026), American actor, director, and writer" sounds like an epigraph but it's kind of hard to an epigraph for a poll so I was thinking of something like this perhaps:

In memory of Tom Noonan (April 12, 1951 - February 14, 2026), American actor, director, and writer, what stands out most to you when reflecting on his legacy?

I'm not sure that we can know what his family and friends valued in him, and we are part of his audiences, so I suggest something like this:

As we reflect on his artistic legacy, we also think of the loss felt by his family, friends, and colleagues.

And there's a small typo in #2:

His performances in horror and genre films   ("performance" needs an "s" on the end)

I think so, too. I was wondering, if the formulation is the best.

I made all the edits you suggested. Thank you, Ruby. :D

He was an actor I always felt he was under-estimated. I always did like his unique face.

He was sympathetic, so not aloof.
