2. The Imitation Game (2014)
3. Interstellar (2014)
4. Hidden Figures (2016)
5. Frozen (I) (2013)

I'm a fan of Stephen Hawking, Alan Turing, Kip Thorne and Katherine Johnson. I appreciate the use of fractal in the song "Let it go."

May I ask why "Mad Max", I started it yesterday and fell asleep (not because of the film) I have to finish it and can get a few glimpses of what made it so successful, but what makes it so special for you?

The first few minutes are not as exciting, but once the proper action gets starts it's like The General (1926) on steroids for me, with the best stunts and some of the best chase moments I've seen. It's hard to compare this purely aesthetic action spectacle to the quieter dramas, of course. I have seen some of the entries of the list only once, Mad Max may well be replaced after rewatches.

I agree: this is so difficult. 'Great idea for a poll but it's so difficult limiting it to five.

I love your list, btw, alb. 'So glad that you have 'Shoplifters' bc I didn't include it but it was difficult not to.

Following Breumaster's post, here's the top 30:

1. In den Gängen/In the Aisles (2018)
2. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
3. Nightcrawler (2014)
4. Us (2019)
5. Shoplifters (2018)
6. Drive (2011)
7. Get Out (2017)
8. Lucky (2017)
9. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
10. 99 Homes (2014)
11. Toni Erdmann (2016)
12. Hell or High Water (2016)
13. It Follows (2014)
14. The Florida Project (2017)
15. Two Days, One Night (2014)
16. Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
17. The Measure of a Man (2015)
18. Wild Tales (2014)
19. Housebound (2014)
20. Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
21. Ladybird (2017)
22. Carol (2015)
23. Victoria (2015)
24. Guilty of Romance (2011)
25. Midnight in Paris (2011)
26. Slow West (2015)
27. Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018)
28. The Death of Stalin (2017)
29. Only God Forgives (2013)
30. The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

This decade had a great variety of ideas and potentials, but there were few if any movies that rose to my all-time top. There is little difference qualitywise between number 11 and 30 or even some movies that didn't make the list (there are some outrageous snubs for sure), but I don't trust numbers much anyway when it comes to valuing art and entertainment.

If Joker had the guts and the intelligence of its paragons, it would probably top the decade.

I might say that 'Night Crawler' misses on my tom 30 list. It was a shocking cool movie. I would say - at least 10 is a minimum to pick for a decade. 10 is 1 for each year! So everybody has to pick his personal best movie for each of the ten years. I would stumble through the years, finding the best of every year. Because I like so many good movies. That's hard enough.

In view of that I've rated more than 4000 movies on the database, the real unimaginative movies might get a 5/10 from me, because they might be entertaining somehow, but surely show a lack of quality. That are e.g. the countdown horror movies. you can watch them beside, but they're not worth paying full attention.

When a movie gets a 10/10 from me, I was enlighted of the movie. The makers did well to get my attention after watching pretty more than 4000 movies. (IMDb wasn't en vogue 20 years before, now surely IMDb is a place for every movie dude, so there surely were tons of productions I saw when I didn't know I can rate that later on a website) Many of my ratings base on feeling and remembering movies 20 years ago or something.

For every decade 10 movies is a pretty short number. That is what I wanted to say.

Ok, Joe. My Top 5:

1. 'Avengers: Endgame'
On my opinion the movie was justly hyped, because it's the peak of a 12-year-epos, that got it's climax in an epic movie, bonding up all the stories of earlier movies of that movie series in one big showdown! What a climax this year! You know where the $2.797 bn came from.

2. 'Avengers: Infinity War':
It was the big preparation of the great final movie. It was big, leaving many fans like me with the thought that there can be only a bigger one. And this promise was held in the concluding movie.

3. 'Mother!'
Again a great movie of Darren Aronofsky, depicting both testaments. It's a big movie idea. I know that many people can not cope with it, but it shows peoples behavior on earth, telling it  in a similie on the bible. That was a very deeply experience for me at cinema. It was a shocking view on that human matter. But it was executed verry clear and wise.

4. 'The Artist'
It was a funny and fresh look an the old b/w genre. The story was fresh and it was excellently executed. Jean Dujardin held a homage on the old stars. I did like it and even cried a tear on the dispair of George Valentin and the fresh talent. The end made me happy as can.

5. 'Interstellar'
One of the greates space movies ever. I like it, because it centers on mankinds suffering on being dependent on the circumstances our planet allows. Maybe mankind will find better ways in the future, but as long as weird ideologies inhibit our options, we  are damned on this planet. And as long we disrespect our planet, we are doomed to extinction. But when we respect all good and usefull knowledge we have, further generations may survive and might go where no man has gone before. ;)

Our lists complement each other, The Big Short and The Wolf of Wall Street are about the culprits of the financial crisis while 99 Homes is (mainly) about the victims.

I just saw The Babadook and it has been really impressive, it is so difficult to replace some movie of my top 5 but I am willing to place Babadook instead of The Sister Brothers.
