West Side Story because it's a classic by itself, you don't even need to judge how great it is by comparison to Shakespeare's play... and it's one of the all-time greatest musicals.

I loved A Star is Born, but now that the Oscar frenzy is over, I'm not sure whether the film will stand the test of time or will just be a gem of the 2010s, I'm glad for its success but then again, it was a directorial debut and a star-making role, so it's not like Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga had jeopardized everything in this film, they had more to win than to lose... Cooper, as an actor, knew how to inject great "acting" moments and Gaga and her teams knew how to make Oscar-worthy song, so the film worked well because it was well done but not that transcending... the hardest part was over with the "skeleton" of the original story.

I think this is the same A Star Is Born (2018) vs. A Star Is Born (1976) vs. A Star Is Born (1954) vs  A Star Is Born (1937) type of conversation as our recent discussion  on Point of No Return (1993) vs, La Femme Nikita (1990). All these films are great, I just think they were made in different times and for different audiences who tastes differs. Just like A Star is Born are reflective of the time periods they were for, I think the two Nikita versions are reflective of the differing tastes of European and American audiences. I agree with your comments, I lthink the shine will wear off for A Star Is Born (2018), I think it was a great re-interpretation, but always thought it was over-hyped, especially a couple months back when the experts were projecting an Oscar sweep.

Potential 2020 Oscar Best Picture Nominee @ 92nd Academy Awards
(TOP 50) 2020 Oscar Predictions: Gold Derby Predicts the 92nd Academy Awards

Little Women 2019 | Movie 8.1 (3,436)
Original Best Picture Nominee: Little Women (1933)

A Best Picture nomination for Little Women (2019) in the Oscars 2020 Best Picture category would bump the total sets of same story Best Picture movies to eight. A notable mark for an award ceremony that over ninety-two years has demonstrated an aversion to reboots, remakes and sequels.

Movie-goers déjà vu experience the past two years with Best Picture Oscar-nominated films Little Women (2019) and A Star Is Born (2018) has become an annual tradition. That tradition is likely to continue this year with West Side Story (2020). Oscar-worthy déjà vu films, like Cleopatra and My Fair Lady, potentially could keep that trend going, if pre-production starts soon. Currently, the total sets of Best Picture nominated movies based on the same story stands at eight. A notable mark for an award ceremony that over ninety-two years has demonstrated an aversion to reboots, remakes and sequels.

"Deja Vu Days" are celebrated the first and second weekends in November.

Washerstians celebrate "Deja Vu Days" to commemorate two early meetings of the Dickinson Organization of Poetry Enthusiasts (DOPE). The first meeting took place on November 2, 1871, and the second meeting occurred one week later on November 9th.

Hi Urb, good poll! My vote in a three-way tie but probably 'Little Women.'

May I suggest just three minor edits to the intro? (in bed below; the first is just an apostrophe at the end of "movie-goers")

I made your three corrections, plus made five more by changing the Deja Vu total to ten sets by adding Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet . Plus, removing the dated West Side story pre-production comment and focusing on Oscars 2021.
Added
Moulin Rouge! 2001 | Movie 7.6 (262,581) Original Best Picture Nominee: Moulin Rouge (1952)
Romeo and Juliet 1968 | Movie 7.6 (28,847) Original Best Picture Nominee: Romeo and Juliet (1936)

Movie-goers' déjà vu experience the past two years with Best Picture Oscar-nominated films Little Women (2019) and A Star Is Born (2018) has become an annual tradition. That tradition is likely to continue at The Oscars (2021) next year with West Side Story (2020). In-development Oscar-worthy déjà vu films, like Cleopatra and My Fair Lady, potentially could keep that trend going in the future. Currently, the total sets of Best Picture nominated movies based on the same story stands at ten pairs. A notable mark for an award ceremony that for over ninety-two years has demonstrated an aversion to reboots, remakes and sequels.

Which of these Oscar nominees that trigger a déjà vu* feeling is your favorite Best Picture retelling?

*a feeling of having already seen the same story in a Best Picture nominee before (same story movie Best Picture sets based the on the same original source material or a revised version)

No official Deja Vu 2023 Oscar Best Picture nominees. Although the 2023 Best Picture sequels, Top Gun: Maverick & Avatar: The Way of Water followed the same formula plots set-up by the original, it felt at times like the same movie.
