Live Poll: Black Movie Musicals

Apart from acclaimed musical biopics, there weren't many traditional musicals made in Hollywood and that featured an all-Black or predominantly-Black cast. Here are those that made up for the injustice... and a few that also made history.

Purple Rain (1984) and Fame (1980) are two of my favorites from the list. Nice idea, I like these niche polls on unique sub-genres.

Thanks a lot, I like that "niche" word and yeah, I find it more stimulating to go for these 'little' ideas than anything that makes it feel like a work chain.

Nothing against superhero and teen movies, but it mixes up the poll selection a bit. Plus, i think it hits an under served segment of more diverse moviegoers.

Get on Up (2014)
What's Love Got to Do with It (1993)
Lady Sings the Blues (1972)
Sarafina! (1992)
Nina (2016)

And the last one "is not" and "this is it" at the same time...

I'll have to brainstorm on that list, if you check my intro, I said "apart from muical biopics", if I include some you suggested, then I'll have to consider "Ray" or "Bird". SotS is tricky, not sure Zip-Dee-Doo-Dah will honor the poll with its presence...

Aha, I see. "Apart from acclaimed musical biopics" means all biopics, not only acclaimed. So, only Sarafina! (1992) matches. Uncle Remus was FYC initially.

Hi ElM, 'Good poll and good to see these movies getting some attention. I haven't seen all of them but, of the ones that I have, I'd say Carmen Jones. 

I've never seen 'The Wiz' and have heard it's pretty bad but I think it would fit the description?
