The space opera follows three generations of the Force-sensitive Skywalker family through three trilogies, each focusing on a different generation. The Skywalker family story is compressed into a nine episode twenty hour tale that cinematically depicts their role in galaxy defining events. A saga is by definition lengthy, detailed, complicated and dramatic narrative of legendary figures and connected events. The intricate Skywalker saga certainly took us a journey that will not soon be forgotten. The odyssey to produce the film series took nearly five decades to complete. It started with a first outline of the A New Hope chapter in January 1973 and ended with the final cut of The Rise of Skywalker chapter in December 2019. Given its scale and scope, it is scary to realize that the Skywalker saga only represents a tiny fragment of the full Star Wars story. A Star Wars media universe accounting by Swiss researchers reveals 640 different communities on 294 planets spanning some 36,000 years of story line with a whopping 21,647 characters.

The Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker premiere on 20 December 2019 represents the final chapter in the 'Star Wars' Skywalker Saga and concludes the movie series.
