Not sure Moonlight deals with racism, homophobia more likely.
Maybe Gone With the Wind indirectly.
Dances With Wolves
Out of Africa.

I think race is major part of the story in West Side Story too.

I think in Dances With Wolves, Gone With the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia and Ben-Hur race is more indirectly addressed. Which movies get in depend on how the question is phrased. Asking whether a film is about racism is much different than saying its story has some racial overtones.

You really have to understand the whole topic, they won't remove it forever as the catchy title suggest.

As the spokesperson said: "It will return with a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions," and will be presented "as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed."

Why "Lawrence of Arabia" and not other war movies?

Platoon
The Bridge Over the River Kwai
Patron

Not saying these films qualify but no less than 'Lawrence'... while war movies don't focus on racism, there is inevitably a good deal of racism governing the interactions between characters from the opposite sides...

Platoon and The Bridge Over the River Kwai added. What is Patron? I can't find this movie.

That's a good point, cinephile, but how hard is it to press the same key twice?

I don't recall any racism in Patton. So, not only is this a mystery, it is also confusing.

Best film is Lawrence of Arabia, but if we talk about racism then 12 Years a Slave

'Schindler's List' depicts anti-semitism but, because Judaism is a religion, not a race, it does not portray racism. Jews can be of any race and the Jews in 'Schindler's List' appear to be white. If you include 'Schindler's List,' I'd add anti-semitism to racism in the introduction.

I think "expound" is probably not the best word to use as it can sometimes mean defend. I suggest "illustrate." I'd also avoid "have racial overtones" and suggest something like:

Which of these movies that have won an Academy Award for Best Picture and illustrate racism or take up race relations in some way is your favorite?

OR

Sorry, but I don't think your point about antisemitism and racism is reasonable.

"The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its allies and collaborators. The Nazis came to power in Germany in January 1933. They believed that the Germans belonged to a race that was "superior" to all others. They claimed that the Jews belonged to a race that was "inferior" and a threat to the so-called German racial community."

Wikipedia on race (human categorization):

Grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as distinct by society.

Wikipedia on racism:

Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another. It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity.
We can gather from these definitions that races are social constructs with no basis in biology or anthropology, or any other "hard" reality. It's simply about singling people out for their alleged traits, and in this way, Jews suffer very much from racism.

This is why it is highly problematic and offensive to talk about different "races" of humans in many European countries, including mine.

I think it's a mix of ethnicity and culture with varying proportions that is referred to as "race"... for lack of a better word... and every "race" is guilty of racism at some point.... how many times do we hear someone saying he or she's not physically attracted by people of specific ethnicities... or not willing to marry people from a different culture or religion or not dreaming to visit some parts of the world... I wouldn't call that exactly racism but maybe people tend to favor their own heritage or their own people... maybe it's an animal/social instinct rooted in our human psyche.... as I often say: "racism is not racist"

Paok, they may contain racism at some point of the plot, but since racism is not the main theme of the films, perhaps it would be better to keep war films like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, Bridge on River Kwai and Patton out of the list so they don't distract from films that actually deal with discrimination.
