I love the casting of Mary Elizabeth Winstead,in the lead role and liked both her performance and the movie. But, for me it hard to but both of the same level as the two classics that preceded it.

The Thing 2011 | Movie Mary Elizabeth Winstead

I think that is going to be case with a lot of these as they are all remakes of well-remembered original films. So, I guess it is more a question of which one you like best or which one comes close to the original.

urbanemovies It seems that a lot of heart was put into making of 2011 movie and most of the problems with it are thanks to executive meddling. Which is a shame, considering how much work crew put in practical effects and replication of the original movie. Cast were no slouches, as well.

vs.

Adventures in Babysitting 1987 | Movie

Do these two movie seem almost exactly the same to anyone else with Jonah Hill reprising the Elisabeth Shue role from the first film. No official writing credit was given to David Simkins the original screenwriter in the second film. Oddly, he didn't get one in the Adventures in Babysitting (2016 TV Movie) Disney remake, either.

It is kinda shocking, I thought there would be a lot more. It seems to happen a bit more in original movies, where the role is rewritten upfront for the opposite sex or just left it as is and casting some one of the opposite gender. Thanks, for the suggestions.

urbanemovies Cyborg movies are an odd case, since a few snippets of the first movie show up in the second as a hallucination. Nemesis movies are arguablly even weirder since they all were directed by Albert Pyun (who started both franchises) and yet are even more unrelated. To top it off, a crossover which is in development hell since mid-2000's confirms that all of those are in a shared universe.

ElM. unofficial remakes might bring quite a few options to the table. Bollywood ones are often mixing two or three unrelated movies into one (a good example: Commando (1988) is a mixture of American Ninja (1985) and Romanicing the Stone (1984) plus some random scenes from other movies)...

ElM.  I can see some basic similarities between Booksmart and Superbad? But, according to the development notes on the Booksmart Wikipedia stub, it is an original script and includes a rewrite to make one of the main characters, LBGTQ. I don't think the two are close enough to call an unofficial remake, loosely based or even a rip-off. Unlike,The Sitter 2011 and  Adventures in Babysitting 1987, which both supposedly original scripts, there are two many parallels to not at least call it a Gender Swap rip-off, IMHO.
