The one made by 是枝 裕和 would probably be my pick, since I'm already familiar with his past work.

@cinephile,

Just a thought, I think the question would benefit from some separation from your opening remarks. Plus, you don't need to say "of the" twice in the question. I think the first sentences could be better linked that it is undesrtood that is the reason you think Cannes 2023 is strong this year.

FYC,

Aki Kaurismäki, Wes Anderson, Hirokazu Koreeda, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Todd Haynes, Bing Wang and Ken Loach headline the list of directors who will compete for the Palme d'Or this year. Their presense along with others at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival has made it one of the strongest directorial lineups in recent memory at the event.

Which of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival nominees for Palme d'Or would you be most interested to see?

@cinephile Maybe you could add a small plot in the list entries description? The IMDb plot summaries won't be visible once this becomes a poll, so users will have little information to decide their vote.

@Pencho15

I was not very keen on doing this update because I did the 2021 poll without plot summaries and it went so well (1000+ votes on the poll, 1000+ views on the list and publication on the homepage). I did your suggested update. I just hope that it  does not make the poll too convoluted for IMDb Editors' taste.

In any case, this time once the poll is published I intend to link the list to the poll. I realized that in some cases the Cannes list brings more views than the poll, this is what happened in 2022 (poll: 331 votes, list: 763 views). If I hope this time I can get some of the list's unique viewers to vote on the poll too.

You could get the plot for Kaibutsu from the Cannes website:

When her young son Minato starts to behave strangely, his mother feels that there is something wrong. Discovering that a teacher is responsible, she storms into the school demanding to know what’s going on. But as the story unfolds through the eyes of mother, teacher and child, the truth gradually emerges.
