Favorite Movie with a Lion/Mountain Lion as a Pet

Lions, and mountain lions, have occasionally been used as pets in films and television.  Which is your favorite movie/tv show where a lion is a family friend or pet?

Notes: All versions of the story of Elsa the Lioness, her siblings, and her offspring in movies and television shows are listed under the original title of Born Free (1966).  The television show Daktari was a follow-up to the film Clarence, the Cross-Eyed Lion and they are listed together.  The Lion King films and the Madagascar films are not listed as, even though both feature lions prominently, they are never pets of human beings.

Born Free (1966) (all versions and sequels)  Elsa the lioness, her sibilings, and her offspring

Clarence. the Cross-Eyed Lion (1965)  a lion, led to television series Daktari

Mia and the White Lion (2018) a white lion

Napoleon and Samantha (1972) a lion

Christian the Lion

Duma (2005)  a cheetah

The Wolf and the Lion (2021) A lion cub

Lena and Snowball (2021) a lion cub

In the early 1970's, CBS changed network executives and programming directors. The new people in charge cancelled several highly rated series that did not appeal to their desired demographic, since called "the Rural Purge." This prompted Green Acres actor Pat Buttram ("Mr. Haney" on Green Acres) to make the observation: "It was the year CBS cancelled everything with a tree—including Lassie."

Which of these cancelled series "with a tree" was your favorite?

Please note that some of these series became independently syndicated and ran for many more years.

Note:  The Rural Purge idea was used by TheMovieSmith

The Beverly Hillbillies  (Note that this was the number one rated show on tv when cancelled)

Petticoat Junction

Green Acres

Mayberry R.F.D.

Hee Haw

Lassie

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom

The Virginian

Bonanza

Gunsmoke

Gomer Pyle, USMC

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did anyone ever do a poll on the films of Andy Sidaris?  He made several low budget/jiggle/action films in the 70's and 80's.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which cartoon that was later made into a live action motion picture was your favorite?  Titles of the original animated shows are listed.

Please not that even though such cartoons as Batman and Superman existed before the feature films did, they started out as comic books and then were movie serials before ever becoming cartoons.  They are not listed.  The Brady Bunch was a live action sitcom before becoming a cartoon series and then becoming a film; it is not listed.  There are multiple films based on some of these titles, but the original cartoon is only listed once.

Scooby Doo, Where are You?

Josie and the Pussycats

Dudley Doo-Right

Who will Will Smith slap at the 2023 Academy Awards?

Chris Rock (again)

Big Bird

Jada Pinkett Smith

Kim Kardashian

Paris Hilton

Miley Cyrus

(you get the idea... just keep adding "celebrities" who either deserve to be slapped or and sweet and innocent and would never deserve a slap)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Albert Finney was nominated for five acting Oscars (4 for best actor, 1 for supporting actor).  For which of his roles do you think that he most deserved the Oscar?

Note:  My first ever published poll over ten years ago was in the original poll days and it was this same question on Peter O'Toole.  I published the same question again a few years later in the revived poll for Peter.  I also did a similar poll for Richard Burton.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Amy Adams has been nominated for six acting Oscars (1 for best actress and five in a supporting role).  For which of these nominations do you think that she most deserved the Oscar?  The actual winner is also listed to help you judge properly

@TheOldJalapenoman interesting, no african-american series. They made some of the best sitcoms though... (not only in the 60s)

@mariojacobs The only black series from that era that I remember was Julia (off the top of my head) and that was just standard clothes and nursing uniforms.  It was too early for The Jeffersons or Sanford and Son.  I was looking for series from that era with unusual or unique costuming.

@TheOldJalapenoman I think The Flying Nun could also fit in your list.

Another free idea for anyone to make a poll from and post (and you get all the credit and points)

Face-off:  Which of these two television characters from the 90's with their "nails on a chalkboard" voice was the most annoying?

Steve Urkel from "Family Matters" (Jaleel White)  1989-1998

Fran Fine from "The Nanny" (Fran Drescher) 1993-1999

Neither was as annoying as JarJar Binks from the movie "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" (also from the 90's) 1999

@mariojacobs Thanks, but I was going for the two people in the decade with the most "nails on the chalkboard" voices that could drive anyone from a room.  I still question how either one of these could have been hit shows, but there is no accounting for lack of taste with the American People.  After all, I think "The Fats of Life" was on tv for ten seasons.

One more free idea (which might seem impossible and has little to do with movies or tv):

What is your favorite way to predict the future?

Tarot readings

Ouija boards

Palm readings

Crystal ball readings

Horoscope/astrology

Here's another free poll idea that has little to do with movies or television.  Make the poll and take credit for it and get all the points.

TheMovieSmith used this idea to create a really great poll.

When eating a peanut butter sandwich, I want:

Peanut butter and jelly (grape)

Peanut butter and jelly (Strawberry)

Peanut butter and jelly (a different flavor)

Peanut butter and... just peanut butter

Peanut butter and honey

Peanut butter and banana

Peanut butter and a different fruit

Peanut butter and chocolate

Peanut butter and a different candy

Another free idea, just sitting here and waiting for someone to use it,

If the investigators on Skull Island in 1933 (release of the original movie) had found Queen Kong instead of King Kong, which beefcake actor would she have captured and fallen in love with>

Note:  Early 1930's leading men only, no comedy actors like Buster Keaton, Fatty Arbuckly, or Charlie Chaplin.

I think "Dan" Darrow would have been played by:

John Wayne

Johnny Weismuller (though they might already know each other)

Buster Krabbe

James Stewart

Cary Grant

Henry Fonda

Clark Gable

Gary Cooper

Humphrey Bogart

James Cagney

Fred Astaire

Errol Flynn

Spencer Tracy

Fredric March

William Powell

Walter Huston

Leslie Howard

Sequel polls will be for the more recent versions of King Kong

JMan, so sorry to hear about your health struggles. I must admit you are one of the all-time greats on the Poll Board. I'm going to take a couple of your ideas on the CBS rural purge and the Peanut Butter and Jelly. Hope to hear more from you in the years to come!

Another free idea, just sitting here and waiting for someone to use it,

If the investigators on Skull Island in 1976 (release of the Jessica Lange movie) had found Queen Kong instead of King Kong, which beefcake actor would she have captured and fallen in love with?

Note:  Early 1970's leading men only, no comedy actors like Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, or John Belushi.

I think "Don" would have been played by:

Steve McQueen

Clint Eastwood

James Garner

Robert DeNiro

Al Pacino

James Caan

William Shatner

Charles Bronson

Robert Vaughnn

Christopher Plummer

Leonard Nimoy

David Soul

Paul Michael Glaser

Henry Winkler

Michael Douglas

Robert Culp

Jeff Bridges (since he was already in the 1976 film)

Charles Grodin (since he was already in the 1976 film)
