At least two Spaghetti Westerns belong on this list. Anyone who cares enough about the genre knows which ones I mean. Hint for others: one stars Clint and Eli; the other stars a Henry and a Charles.
On a separate matter, why isn't Silverado on more of the top western lists? It had the complete package, including a terrific score and Kevin Costner when he still had a lively personality.

Indeed, It was kind of dumb of them  to snub Sergio Leone's Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo and C'era una volta il West

Western Spaghetti and Leone, have only acquired the due respect recently, and I think that their lists are about 20 years old.

The AFI's lists are explicitly for American films only. Italian films do not qualify (even ones that are better than anything on the US list).

The AFI is simply near-sighted
This is the IMDb page of C'era una volta il West
It is an Italy and USA co-production
and it is kind of stupid to snub foreign movies. I understand the nationalism here, but foreign films are much more endangered than USA films., the AFI is pretty irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

My vote: High Noon (1952)
2nd: The Searchers (1956)
3rd: Unforgiven (1992)
4th: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
5th: Cat Ballou (1965)

High Noon is undoubtedly the best movie I've seen. So my vote goes to it.

"Searchers" is perhaps my least favorite film.... but thanks to this list I discovered the extraordinary "McCabe & Mrs. Miller"
