Hi @urbanemovies,

Yes, I'll make the changes and bump the post once this year's Oscar winners are announced.

I am not sure if I was clear. This issue is not updating the poll suggestion with this year's winner. You are asking about Oscar Best Picture Winners, but citing the year range (1990-2020) the pictures were made, not the year range (1991-2021) they won their Best Picture Award.

Actually, I stated the years when the movie was released.

Yes, I understand that is what you did. But, the way you ask the question makes it incorrect to cite those years. If you want to use that year range, then you need to rephrase your question.

Incorrect

Which of these Oscar-winning films for Best Picture from 1990 to 2020 is your favorite?

(you are claiming the 1990 to 2020 year range relates to the Best Picture award dates when you place the year range right after)

Correct

Which of these Oscar-winning Best Picture films made from 1990 to 2020 is your favorite?

Yes, I see that may cause some confusion. I'll correct them soon.

Thanks.

Yes, it is more in keeping with IMDb listings to use the year the award ceremony took place. But I wouldn't call it inaccurate to use the release year. The Academy itself has done so traditionally. For example, the official awards database: "the 2020 (93rd) Academy Awards, presented on April 25, 2021".

It isn't a matter of what is standard or proper. It is a matter of not being confusing and instead choosing to be crystal clear. Your own example makes the point by explaining the 2020 awards were held in 2021.

"the 2020 (93rd) Academy Awards, presented on April 25, 2021".

You're the one calling it incorrect.

Update: Removed the 2020 film. Kept only the last 3 decades.
