These are good polls but I'm betting people, especially those who don't know much about American football, might read "offensive" as meaning upsetting, disrespectful, or insulting, and defensive as opposing and sensitive to criticism. It's uncertain that both polls would be run on the same day, next to each other, and run separately increases the likelihood of misinterpretation, so I'd suggest a few small edits to clarify meaning. For example, maybe something like

Best American Football Film Characters: Offense

Which American football player* portrayed by an actor in a fictional feature film, and who plays a position for the offense,  is your favorite? *excludes professional football player cameos and limited roles

-or-

Best American Football Film Characters: Offense

Which purely offensive* American football player portrayed by an actor in a fictional feature film is your favorite? 

* Offensive: Positions on the team that move to score points, such as quarterback and receivers, as opposed to playing for the team's defense

Fair point.  I have modified the questions to more closely resemble your first suggestion.

I wouldn't be surprised if a sizeable number where unfamiliar. While, the largest single group of IMDb users are American, there are many users from outside of the country that do have at least a passing familiarity with the game. Plus, It is broadcast throughout the world and has worldwide following. Additionally, other world sports use the terms offense and defense to describe play in their sports.

I did need to divide the poll in a logical way to include all the prominent characters. If poll takers have seen anyone of these football based movies, I think they will have a basic concept of the game. Otherwise, I think some of these characters' behavior can be endearing on their own, even for those who don't understand the game. If they haven't seen any the movies in the poll. then the whole poll is probably a lost cause for those IMDb users anyways.

The poll is targeted to those who appreciate the football genre of movies and can appreciate its colorful characters. Plus, a tribute to many of today's biggest stars who appeared in a football movie in an early role. Voters who haven't seen these football films could chose from among their favorite movie stars.

Once both poll parts publish, I can re-push with a link to the other companion poll for poll takers to navigate more easily to see the full universe of characters on both sides of football.

The term "best 'game' as a football character" allows poll takers the flexibility to interpret what makes a great movie football character. Factors could include on-the-field  heroics, football talent, skills and game play, joined on and off the field screen actions. As well as, the uniqueness, comedic exploits, or endearing nature of the football character. Another evaluation could be based on the actor portraying the character, who demonstrates the best acting chops or creates the most memorable fictional football character. Poll takers can simply vote for their favorite, the total package or use any one metric they choose.

NFL Draft is April 26th-28th

I could add a character evaluation and NFL combine/draft tie-in introductory sentence and put a draft bent on the question.

Each spring, NFL teams prepare for the upcoming season by evaluating and drafting talented position players for their teams based on each players talent, skill and "game".

2019 marks the 150th anniversary of what would become organized inter-collegiate American Football with a  Princeton vs. Rutgers 1869 football game. While 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the formation of the National Football League. In honor of these dual anniversaries, we celebrate with two polls featuring the greatest fictional baseball hitters and pictures in movie or television history.

The NCAA took a low key approach by scheduling Princeton vs Dartmouth at Yankee Stadium on the historic150th anniversary weekend on November 9th, 2019. The NFL's 100th season will open with the 199th meeting between two of the league's oldest teams, the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.on September 5th, 2019 at historic Soldier Field.
