The Shooting Party - 1984 or 1985?

Most sources say the James Mason movie "The Shooting Party" was released in February of 1985, but the IMDB title for that movie says "1984."  The "release date" section for that movie only gives a single film festival showing in 1984.  Shouldn't "1985" be part of the proper title?

It is normal IMDb behaviour that the earliest listed date is used as the title year.

However, the festival screening that is listed is for "Cannes Film Market". If this wasn't a public screening, it should not be listed.

IMDb might have a source or other background for this information.

Thanks for flagging this.  The private market screening does not count in terms of setting the year-in-title so it has been removed (previous versions of the IMDb software would correctly skip this but this title seems to have been missed in the clean-up, sorry).  The title is back to being in 1985 where it belongs.

@Col_Needham

Apparently the 1984 date was added back around six months after your reply.

(Edit: I have deleted the date.)

Perhaps there could be a warning or block on "market" screenings if they should not be listed.

I found this post again prompted by a recent post:
