Need Preview for [link=] contributions

When contributing to Soundtracks or Trivia or Goofs or Biographies or anywhere that [link=] can be used, we need a preview function.

I just updated 6 songs on a film, and went crazy copy/pasting from the submission page to a list where I could see how this translates:
"A Rainy Night in Rio"
Music by [link=nm0777150]
Lyrics by [link=nm0732209]
Performed by Carmen Cavallaro and his Orchestra, [link=nm0007217], [link=nm0604605], [link=nm0656712], and [link=nm0896015] (dubbed by [link=nm0842342]), large ensemble, and [link=nm1458187]

(I decided to skip the link for Carmen because I just got tired of it; he got a link on an earlier song. To this song I really only added the last link.)

I would think IMDb would be interested in providing such a function to prevent bad submissions.

[Edited to see if Closed status would be removed... It was not.]

Why was this closed?

@bderoes,

A preview function would be extremely useful. In addition, an in place search function like the one for name and title lists would helpful.

This is one possible syntax:
[link=name] and [link=title].

When the format tag parser see this code in the preview mode, the user gets a search box for a name or a title.

Although I find this type of link to be much easier and less mistake-inducing then "(qv)'s", preview could have been a very usable function.

Just wanted to reiterate this request. I'm updating about a Soundtrack or other link-included item a day, and it's torture to not be able to see what I'm doing without a preview.

@bderoes,

I strongly support you idea, since this would reduce errors in submissions. In the interim, one can use the description field of a user created list to create, edit and preview a contribution. I fully appreciate that this is double work and less than ideal. However, it is still a work around that appears to be viable.

Here is your example in a list that I described:

(I decided to skip the link for Carmen because I just got tired of it; he got a link on an earlier song. To this song I really only added the last link.)

I know about "previewing" my entry by pasting into a list's description field, in fact I think I posted that as a suggestion somewhere on GS. That extra work is part of the problem when I'm updating multiple submissions on the same title. The one I did yesterday had 9 items with [link]s, and there's no way that I know to copy all the boxes at once.

I find the results of link tags very predictable and don't need a preview. But previews are already part of the mobile submission interface for trivia and plots. Adding it to the website submission forms may require an overhaul of the update system (which I'd be a little nervous about).

Predictable, except when juggling 5 or 6 names for a single box (there are 8 in my root example); I want to make sure I put the lyricist with the word lyrics, and the dubber in the right place, etc. And when juggling several such boxes in a Soundtrack list, I need to place the same nm const's in multiple places, and want to make sure I didn't make a hash of it.

I don't see that a Preview function would take a major overhaul, just another button on the bottom of the page for Preview Links.

I was going to suggest this and found this thread from two years ago.  A preview would have been useful as I didn't know the release year would be included with the linked title.

Obviously there has been little movement on adding this feature, that's too bad...

There are now! I am sure I voted for this when it was first posted but that seems to have disappeared so I have voted for it in its current form.

It seems Sprinkler ignored all the previous upvotes for all Ideas that were there before Sprinkler. Silly system.

Does "Closed" mean I cannot add a comment?

Does it mean people cannot vote for it?

Why is it marked Closed?

Well, the comment posted.

Hopefully new votes can accrue.
