How can I get credited ? I am that kid !

SO , I was on a popular TV show as a kid. "The Wonder Years" I played  "Young Wayne Arnold". In this role, I was the older brother when Kevin (the main character) would reminisce about when they were younger. It was shot to look like old grainy 8mm home movies. I was on 5 or so episodes in a fairly prominent role. Then my family moved to Texas. Needless to say, there aren't many acting gigs in 1989 Texas. So was out of LA/Hollywood TV/Film until I was an adult.

At this point, I learned what IMDB was and looked myself up to see if I was in the credits of episodes I was in. NOPE. I've tried to add myself several times to the IMDB page for the cast and episode credits. I keep getting denied. They say they need proof. This is very frustrating because there isn't the type of proof they require. And I don't think they'll go for me showing them pictures of myself at 8 and 9 years old and compare them to the screenshots of the episodes.

ANYWAY, my question is how can I go about getting the credit that I rightfully earned?

It's actually me, I am that kid!

It could be pretty easy if any of the shows you were on are available to watch online. If so, wait until the credits roll at the end. Pause it and take a screen shot with your name shown in the credits and upload that to IMDB.

@stevepaparatto That assumes that Aaron was actually listed in the credits of the episode. I assume he would have thought of getting screen shots of the credits if his name had been in the credits.

Aaron: Was your name actually in the credits of any of these episodes? If not, has your name been in the credits of any other film or TV show you have worked on? A person has to have at least one credited job before they can start getting their uncredited work listed in IMDb.

@gromit82 That is why if you read my post I said "if". And if you read Aaron's post fully, he sated "I was on 5 or so episodes in a fairly prominent role". He would have to have had a very poor manager to be in a prominent role for 5 or more episodes uncredited. Usually in the industry only walk-ons and extras get no credit. If he was not credited by the show when he worked there it is doubtful, he will get it here.

It actually seems likely that he would have been credited on-screen.

Take a look at the IMDb listing for Jodie Rae, who played "Young Karen Arnold" or "Young Karen" on ostensibly the same five episodes. Her IMDb listing indicates that she was credited "as Jodi Rae," thus implying an on-screen credit.

@keyword_expert Quite possibly, but so far I have only found one of the five episodes with Jodie Rae online with full credits ("Brightwing"). And in that one, there was a credit for her playing Young Karen but not one for anyone playing Young Wayne or Young Kevin.

Hi, keyword_expert:

It actually seems likely that he would have been credited on-screen.

I wouldn't be so sure either. I've checked the credits of two more (ETA: all) episodes in which Jodi Rae appears (in addition to the one reviewed by gromit) and she is indeed among them, but there is no actor listed as playing "Young Wayne".

@gromit82 @ljdoncel

Thanks for checking. So, he was uncredited.

In this case, he could prove it by showing correspondence or contracts with the TV production company.

Yeah my name isn't listed in the credits, but it's odd that "Young Karen" would be given a similar prominence or lack thereof in the episodes.

The 4 episodes I am in for sure are:

"Summer Song"(S3 E1) @ 8:36

"The Family Car" (S3 E7) @ 21:59
"Mom Wars" (S3 E4) @ 1:23
"Rock and Roll" (S3 E10) @ 1:41

@AaronKeysor Does your family still have any contracts or paperwork relating to your appearances?

@keyword_expert I'm not sure, I'll have to check. It's kind of a long shot. At this point, Is that the only way?

BTW

Thank you for your help and advice everyone

Would the studio or production company keep any paperwork or something related to this ? It was over 30 years ago tho 😬

@AaronKeysor I'm not sure it's the only way, but perhaps the best way.

@gromit82 No unfortunately not. I tried to get the credit as a part of the cast and uncredited. I was denied both times

I would think that in order to be on the show you would have to be in the union.  SAG-AFTRA if so, contact your union, that is what you pay dues for. But be advised that per IMDB rules you would have the word "uncredited" placed next to your name.

@stevepaparatto

But @gromit82 commented this earlier in the thread:

A person has to have at least one credited job before they can start getting their uncredited work listed in IMDb.

Thus, even if he can prove that it's him, he still can't get listed on IMDb unless he has at least one credited role on another title.

@keyword_expert That assumes he has not had any credited work, which may be the case. However, his original post is not that easy to follow. I quote "Then my family moved to Texas. Needless to say, there aren't many acting gigs in 1989 Texas. So was out of LA/Hollywood TV/Film until I was an adult." I took that to mean he has done other work as an adult. But perhaps not.

I think he did answer that question later in the thread about his later work:

No unfortunately not. I tried to get the credit as a part of the cast and uncredited. I was denied both times

He does have an IMDb listing, but no credits there.

@keyword_expert That seems strange in and of itself, doesn't it? IMDB will not give him any credits even uncredited, but will give him his own page that lists nothing?

@stevepaparatto Yeah , I thought that was odd too. Should I fill out the info and put a picture ? Maybe that will establish more validity..?

@stevepaparatto No, it's not strange. It is easy to establish an IMDb page. There are many "blank" name pages like this. Many are for employees of companies that are also listed on IMDb.

@AaronKeysor That won't cause IMDb to change their rule that you can't get  credited on IMDb unless at least one of your roles was credited on screen.

If it's any consolation, this thread on Sprinklr will live on and establish your identity.

@AaronKeysor I would, it will make you more recognizable if nothing else. Then eventually you may get credited work and be able to fill in the rest. I have a friend of mine that won "I want to be a soap star" years ago. He was on One life to live for a couple of months after he won, and then they killed his character off. Most of the time he bartends now., but he gets some gigs here and there. He had a 2-day gig on General hospital at the beginning of the year. He also does commercials and print ad modeling when he can get it. So, keep at it.  Best of luck.

@AaronKeysor Sprinklr is the company that runs this message board for IMDb. (That may not be the precise way of phrasing things. But Sprinklr is a company that provides message board services for various companies, and IMDb is one of its client companies that has a Sprinklr message board.)
