Solved

Where's IMDbpro 7-day shareable link now?

IMDbPro updated its layout on Thursday, and it appears that a feature may have changed or been removed.

Previously, IMDbPro allowed users to generate a public, shareable link that could be accessed by non-members to view the main IMDbPro profile page for 7 days after first opened. I used this feature regularly. With the new layout, however, I can only find the option to generate a PNG of the IMDbPro card and the standard vanity link.

Was this functionality removed, or has it been moved to a different location within the new interface?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

@Jolene Yes, please. Thank you. In terms of marketing, it was a very useful feature being able to allow non-members of IMDbpro to see the main page using that 7-day shareable link.

Hello @davejsp,

Thank you so much for reporting this.

Yes, this feature is currently not available as there was low reported usage. However, our tech team would like to know how do you tipically use this feature and who do you share it with? We may have alternative solutions available.

Hello Jolene,

Thank you for following up. I’d be happy to explain how I typically used the 7-day shareable link and why it was so valuable for my work.

I am a publicist and have been managing the promotion side for several dozens of IMDbPro profiles (actors) for over a decade. I also maintain extensive connections across social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X, allowing me to place content directly in front of industry decision-makers and professionals.

For me, the 7-day IMDbPro shareable link was far more effective than a link to the public page because it allowed access to the full IMDbPro profile, including credits, agent/manager contact info, and other professional details, without requiring the target recipient to log in or have an IMDbPro account. This made it an incredibly efficient tool for outreach and promotion: I could simply generate a link for any actor’s page and share it with industry contacts for a week, ensuring they saw the most relevant and up-to-date information.

I understand that the feature may have appeared underutilized, but in my experience, that was not due to lack of value, it was simply that most users or marketers were not aware of its potential. Personally, it has been my go-to tool for over ten years, and I have a strong track record of success using it.

With the new layout and current alternatives, any IMDbPro link now requires the viewer to log in or have an account, which removes the ease of access and significantly reduces its usefulness for my work. Unless there is an equivalent solution that allows non-members temporary access to a full IMDbPro profile, I will be forced to consider taking my business elsewhere.

I hope this clarifies the importance of the 7-day shareable link from a professional marketing standpoint. I would be very interested in any alternative solutions your team could provide.

Best regards,Dave

I want to add a new detail that I found about this: actually, it's still possible to get a 7-day shareable link through the IMDbpro app under the card menu, the problem is that the generated link no longer opens a page and instead gives a 404 error, so I believe with minor changes, this functionality could be used again, and I use it a lot!

@JonThe app was installed today, so it's up to date. I usually use a desktop browser, that's why I only found this out today. I actually appreciate that the app still provides the 7-day shareable link, it's just that it doesn't allow unregistered users to view the IMDbpro page as it was originally intended. Can that be rolled back?

Hi davejsp -

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

I’m following up to confirm that the 7-day shareable link feature is no longer supported.  As the feature is no longer functional, our technical team has removed the button from the app.

At this time, there are no plans to reintroduce the feature. However, if you found it valuable, we encourage you to submit a new Idea thread to request its return.  This allows other community members to comment and vote, and helps our team gauge interest for future enhancements.
