Ratings: Import history and data from other sites

Hi IMDb team. I've been using sites for cataloguing the movies I watch for some years now, but I never started using IMDb itself. At the moment, I have accounts at Listal and iCheckMovies. To start these accounts I had to check and rate all the movies I had ever watched, and it took a huge time to finish it up.After that, I started checking and rating the movies I watched and making up lists and stuff. However, now that I finally want to start rating and checking these movies in the IMDb site, I just don't want to spend a very long time checking all these films again. In the iCheckMovies site they have a feature that makes it possible to import the ratings from the IMDb site, so it is not necessary to check and rate it all again. I was wondering: is it possible to import my history from other sites to IMDb? I asked this to the iCheckMovies team and this is what they answered me:"Hi Renan,That would be neat, but that's up to IMDb to implement. You could try contacting them to make this a feature or to open up their API.Cheers,The iCheckMovies Team" What do you think about it? Other people from iCheckMovies and Listal also supported the idea, so I believe I'm not the only one who'd love that to come true. Thanks for your attention! Please answer me back here or in my e-mail, I'm not sure of how I'm going to be contacted or how I'll be contacted if you answer me here...Renan Araújo.Brazil.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Export my Facebook likes to IMDB.

I've liked around 600 movies on Facebook.

I don't want to have to manually add them one by one to IMDB and then rate them.

Can this happen automatically instead?

Just create a button for me to click on so that it imports them all in one go, and then I'll rate them one by one.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Allow me to import a list from .txt or .csv.

Observed: creating a lists is a manual process: lots of individual clicks which take a lot of time (waiting for network response) and a corresponding chance for error.

Expected: allow me to create a list by importing from a .txt or .csv file.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Letterboxd to IMDB Ratings, Lists, etc.

I know Letterboxd Pro supports IMDB Watchlists/Ratings transfers, but what about vice versa?
For example:
> transfer imdb info to letterboxd
> start ratings, adding to watchlists, etc on letterboxd
> go back on imdb and want to transfer over letterboxd info to imdb

I'm not sure the last time it was discussed, but it would be amazing if there was a way to transfer date from other sites to IMDb. I use Letterboxd, and I'd love to import my movies to here!
Is there now a way to do this?

Thank you!

is there a way to upload movie votes to the imdb en-masse, e.g. via a 2-column csv or text file that lists simply the imdb links (i.e. the "tt*") and 1-10 rating for each?

i have a bespoke database of thousands of these, so it would be impractical to rate titles one at a time through the website.

Why can't you develop this feature?

i have reviewed the FAQs on lists, but none seem to address the potential of importing a title list - in as a .csv, .txt or whatever - and I would like to do this; could i?

my goal is to make an IMDb list of stuff in my personal collection, but there are thousands of titles and anyway it would be hard to keep up with the new ones all the time.  a way to create such a list automatically from a one-field file of "tt*" entries (which i can easily query from my database) would be a marvelous way to do that!

Hi Albert,

There is no method to import files, although you can export your lists in CSV format. I am updating this post to an "Idea" so other users can provide their input and our team can consider this in future updates.

Thanks!

Can't believe this feature isn't here! I want to switch to IMDb Watchlist from trakt, but no way I can do it without an import feature.

@steve

There have been some Users as Members here that had a List deleted for some reason 🤢

IMDb can restore some of them and some they can not

IF the User exported the List in CSV format the User should be able to restore it 😃

Thia actually sort of can be accomplished via AJAX requests, meaning that the creation of a browser extension or a monkey script for the stated purpose is a viable avenue. Hopefully a third party web developer will look into it.

There are already two threads on this, but they are 7 years old.  Hoping maybe something has evolved.  IMDB should really make this feature available....

Sorry, no.

Frankly, I don't know how something like that would work, because plenty of titles have the same name.

Depends on how it was implemented and the interface.  If it was a feature built into the site, then you would upload a list of movies with ratings in a given format, and it would:

If it found one exact name match, it would add your rating.

If it found no match, it would report to you (give you a list at the end) of those it could not find.

If it found more than one movie with that name, it would ask you which to rate, or as above, give you a list when done of titles that were ambiguous.

If it was a stand-along command line program, it would do the same but write the results to log file.

I dunno. I think it could find false matches too.

A few years ago I transferred my Netflix ratings (perhaps 2500-3000 of them), and it was a pain, and took many hours. It had the extra deficit of being 1-5 instead of 1-10, and I converted some into odd numbers as I went. Had there been an automated version, I never would have gone back to find those.

Hello, can I transfer ratings from another service to IMDB? For example, through the CVS file, I know other sites support this. I would love to switch to IMDB.

It is unrealistic to manually transfer more than 4,000 ratings

@Strannik This is not available directly on IMDb, however, there are several third party options (which are unsupported by IMDb so use at your own risk).  One of them which appears to have been updated to support the new IMDb ratings page format is available at https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/463836-imdb-ratings-importer and one (which may be out-of-date) is discussed at https://www.reddit.com/r/Letterboxd/comments/sy7vsw/i_made_a_script_to_import_your_letterboxd_ratings/ [other options are mentioned in this same thread]

Hope this helps.

We're waiting. This function is not that complicated. I use the Cinema Room and there is its own import of ratings from other sites.
