Lists: Add people to lists directly from name pages

When i want to add an actor, actress or director to my people list, i have to go and edit list and search after that i could add those people. It's very difficult and long to do that. There should be a button like watchlist on people's page too. But there's no button yet. You should definitely add such a thing to the people's page.

This is a feature on the app though.

Yep, there is. I use it quite often. It is funny though, my idea was submitted several years ago and now suddenly it appears here as posted 4 hour ago :D. Obviously merging topics is not such a great idea chronologically wise :)

I wonder if IMDb has not gotten to this request because they see Name lists as underutilized.

Ironically, it could be the absence of this feature that CAUSES Name lists to be underutilized.

well, creating a people-list instead of a film-list was quite easy.
but it took me 10min of research to finally find a website where somebody explains how to actually ADD people to said list (it was this: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/unable_to_add_actors_to_personal_lists)

i'm in IT myself, so i know this is really no biggie.
pretty disappointing that this feature STILL hasn't been added...

It’s sad that the folks who promote this website and want to draw patrons in don’t provide a quality product to them if they want to create lists to share with others.  I’ve got several lists on this site that I haven’t been able to edit, simply because the webmasters took away the ‘name’ sort on lists.  The only filter available in the drop down is ‘Date Added’.  The ‘View’ option only gives you ‘Grid’ and ‘Detail’ views.  And the ‘ascending’ and ‘descending’ arrows only sort the number assigned to the ‘Name’.   If a person wants to add an actor say, and don’t know if that person already exists on the list, the only way to determine that is to scan the entire list, which in some cases could be over a 100 names.  Sort by ‘Date Added’ provides no association to the alpha sequence to the file.  Restore the sort by ‘Name’ option!!!

I agree that we should be able to do more sorting directly on a people list page.

In the meanwhile, there are 2 options to work around that:
1) export the list to a spreadsheet, and sort there, or
2) use Advanced Search to sort:

I just tried your suggestion to 'use Advanced Search to sort' and it's an excellent option to sort your lists A-Z and compare entries that are already there vs any additional entries I wish to make.  I wish I knew of this option years ago while I stood idly by waiting for a software change.  Thanks bderoes, this rose is for you.  God Bless

I really love this new "favorite people list" that was added but its hard for me to understand why its exclusive to iOS.  Does this list not even exist on the normal web browser version of the site?  Can it please be added?  Thanks for making a great resource for us movie lovers IMDB!

"exclusive to iOS" because only that team of programmers could be bothered. Not the first time I've come across inconsistent features in apps cross-platform. Facebook is the worst at this.

I'm really wondering what are developers of IMDB doing in days?! I think needs to put this feature request on indiegogo to raise money for it!

I don’t know if anyone has suggested this edit option in the past, but someone did give me this procedure until such time IMDb provides a better method to adding/deleting from your lists.  It may seem a little tedious at first, but you’ll catch on.  It has worked for me.

1).  Sign into your IMDb account.

2).  Then go to https://www.imdb.com/search/?ref_=fn_asr  and choose the “Advanced Name Search” option.

3)  Scroll down to “Lists” and highlight the list you want to edit from the “Include” selection box.  Then go to “Display Options” and choose your preferred option.  Then from the “Sort by” picks, select how you want to display your entries from your list.  I would recommend “A-Z Ascending”.  You can review your entire list here.

4).  After you have reviewed your list(s), if you wish to make new additions to those list(s), go to your IMDb account name at top of the webpage and from the options, choose “Your Lists” and then choose the list to which you wish to add entries.  Once you have selected your list, click the vertical ellipsis button, and choose “Edit”.  Scroll to the bottom to the “Add a Name to this List” block.  After you have finished adding your new entries, go to the top of your list and click “Done”.

I hope this helps to manage your lists more effectively in the interim.

I know that with the mobile device IMDb app, I can very quickly add films, tv shows, or people to various lists.

I can't seem to find this easy functionality on the IMDBb website when browsing from a computer.

To do this from a computer, it seems that I have to go to my profile, lists, then edit list and so forth.  Many more steps.  Am I missing something simple on this?

Can you make a list like WATCHLIST to add people quickly? Favourites, a LIKE button or something like that?

It would be easier and not frustrating if we didn't have to create lists for people and type their names..

Me too. When I want to add an actor (while browsing on my computer) I have to grab my phone and search for them on the app and then add to favourites on there. Why is there still no option on the main webpage? I didn't realise this has been an issue from nine years ago. I'm sure back in the early 2000s you could do it.

The new version of the Name page has the Add to List button we've been waiting for.

Available for preview now, with a button on the lower left corner of the Name page to go into the new mode or go back out to the older view.

@bderoes Thanks!!! A decade passed, but it's finally there guys!

@bderoes The speed in which that was added makes it seems you always had the functionality but held it back. I viewed the new page, I don't believe it was there a few days ago. Still not changing from the reference view for this one feature that should be there already, just like it is on a media page to add to watchlist.

@bderoes They're forcing the new touchscreen style on us now. The add to button only allows me to create a new list, not add the actor to my list of favourite actors. Was that the same four months ago?

(I can still see the old style name pages when I use Edge, but Chrome and Brave both show the new style)

Using Chrome 107 on Windows 11 here.

It takes a moment to load my lists, but I can add a person to one of my existing lists, as well as seeing the Create New List option.
