I use IMDb from time to time and today was my first experience with the redesign. I must say I like the idea, but hate the execution. You have a lot of elements correct, but a lot of it is horrendous.

Why is there sooooooo muuuuuuuch unused space? The whole movie page takes about the double amount of scrolls to get to the bottom compared to before, why this downgrade? More space between buttons doesn't mean its a better page?

Also why is the line above the movie poster just empty on the left side? Why not put the movie title or something there instead of having them on seperate lines?

To me the pictures and videos of the movie is so hidden now, behind those giant "Video" / Pictures" buttons. Before you used to be able to preview the small pictures before clicking on them. This new thing is so bad. I doubt I'll ever click on them now, there is nothing tempting about grey buttons which leads me off the page I am currently on. Before it just played in the same window. HUGE downgrade if you actually want people to watch the pic/vids you post there. Oh wait, when I started to scroll down I found them. But I still miss seeing more than 1 video clip in the main window at the top.

I have a HUGE thing against this new way of showing the cast. Like wtf? It used to be so easy to see whos there when they were all lined up downwards. With this new design I really have to spent time just to get an overview of whos there, whereas I before got the gist of it after a fast glance since you could spot the names WAY easier and faster.

Did I tell you how much I despise the spacing between each item? As I keep scrolling down I just keep getting reminded of how much easier it was on the eye before. Don't get me wrong, I love IMDb, been using the site for 18 years or so, but this downgrade is something I just can't let by without voicing my concerns. The mobile app (android) also has problems with spacing between items, but not as bad as this. Really hope that gets some attention too at some point. It would be such an easy fix. Thanks for reading.

When I go to a film page what I am looking for is the reviews. With the new layout that takes a lot of scrolling. Far too much space is given to the cast and various info blobs. An obvious link at the top to the reviews would help.

I take that back. Sort of. There IS a link. But it could be more obvious.

Hi.

I am using an IMDb for quite a long time and actually a big fan of the site.

However, I find the latest version of the IMDb UI as not intuitive and less convenient than in the previous version that we were used to and loved.

Here are the reasons:

  1. It is not clear enough whether the movie is released or not
  2. The symbols in movie's title, like R are not self explanatory and the legend is missing
  3. The link of the symbols bring to a non related page
  4. In serials, episodes link brings to the latest season instead of to the start
  5. List of actors has to versions: when scrolled down the title, there is a page with avatars that I like but if an actor name is clicked, another page with the list is opened (the previous version).
  6. The info and links below the movie title is not consistent and differs between the titles. I find it confusing.
  7. The video and photos section is too big and in my opinion less relevant than list of actors. It puts the list of actors too down in the page and is duplicated with the links to videos and photos at the right of the movie video.

I hope my message will be seen and my voice will be heard. In my opinion, the UI changes are too radical and makes the site less useful and convenient.

Please try keeping the site frame with little changes in items location so it will be convenient and less time consuming to find the information needed.

Thank you.

Alexey

yesterday , i've been the victim of another issue from the new design :

there was a video advert in the main banner ! with autoplay !!

it was slowing all the imdb page navigation, again more slower than usualy !

that kind of advert should be banned from IMDB!

what is the meanning of putting video advert before the trailer video if you put another video in the top banner ?

@usamike You're not alone. I've been thinking exactly the same thing about this. But think, like with the "Deathloop" shooting game. You have to be at least 13 to sign up for the free IMDb membership, but the game advertised here is rated 18!

Except from that shooting game, I've even encountered lots of other main banner advertisements that take lots of unnecessarily much space, which is very frustrating as they distract me from looking for the information I'm really after, all thanks to autoplay and amount of excessive graphics. The background colors, depending on title being advertised, are just jarring like heck, and the blood-red background for "Deathloop" is just a perfect example of this.

If I really want to watch ads like these, I'd rather look for such ads on YouTube or similar sites, or just click on the video part in the actual IMDb title page for any movie I'm interrested in.

And I know I'm not alone in all of the stuff I've just said.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about the advertisements on our site. We occasionally allow other ad formats because some of our advertisers have expressed their preference for these alternative methods of promoting their products and services. We realize that some of these advertising methods may be more intrusive or require more user interaction than regular banner ads, so we constantly work together with our advertisers to substantially limit the frequency of such ads and achieve a good balance between an effective promotional exposure and maintaining great site usability. Please keep in mind that IMDb.com is a free service: our advertisers help us to continue providing you with great movie information, and thanks to them we can keep offering our popular service for free and continually improve our site with new content and features.

The "All Topics" button is visible when the page itself become visible but it may take an extra half a minute for the button to become functional. Of course, I'm still operating under the assumption that a mostly-idle CPU and a lot of unused RAM are absolutely needed to maximize the performance, but what if it simply does not matter?

It got worse after the 'face-lift' a year ago, amazingly on both computer and mobile -

On computer: Everything user interface below the upper/primary screen (now 'negative'/black for some reason) is low quality design, with a lot of empty space/margins; pictures having a size now between a photo (where you can discern details) and a thumbnail (only suggestive), and 'categories'', like Top Cast', taking up more than nessessary space due to too large actor-photo, and even listed in 2 rows - bad, bad for overview (which is why I use IMDb).

Om Mobile: When searching; first i have to tap on the bottom of the screen (magnifier), then tapping at the top (text frame) to set cursor, then typing on the keyboard at the bottom of the phone screen... BOTTOM-TOP-BOTTOM -that's simply bad user interrface design 1-0-1.

Can we have the previous more 'Data-base'-like user interface back as a choice of settings - not a big effort for IMBd, as clicking on, say, an actor, we're right back to the 'old' version...   PLEEEEEEZE

Thanks

posted this separately as well but will post here to since it has to do with the new design.
for the most part I'm actually liking. couple things here and there like this tho:

so when a title page is just opened up, the watchlist starts at one spot then moves down as the rest of the page loads, for the "more ways to watch' buttons.

This is always causing me to accidentally click more ways to watch instead often.

Or have to wait for it to load all the way every time i want to quickly add something to a list.

Is there a way to either have them all load at the same time, or movie the watchlist to the top or another area where it is clickable right away?
