Not sure where else to report this, but all detail pages seem to have the wrong open graph type.

All I can find on detail pages is

<meta property="og:type" content="image" />

where instead it should be for movie (as even exampled on the ogp site)

<meta property="og:type" content="video.movie" />

and for tv show

<meta property="og:type" content="video.tv_show" />
Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled All imdb.com detail pages appear to have incorrect Open Graph types

such a loss.  imdb was such a useful site.

i can't help wonder who did all this research, and on what group of people, and what kind of lie they told the folks at imdb that would convince them this new design was a good thing.   i hate to sound old fashioned, but there's a lot of wisdom in "if its not broken, don't pay some moron web developer with a bogus study to destroy your company"

What, exactly,  was wrong with the way the old site looked and functioned?

it looks like i'll be replacing the imdb bookmark in my browser with one that points to themoviedb.org.

Try MetaCritic.com . The home page does not look good, but the individual movies have better UI. They have lots of movie data as they aggregate and you can start adding your movie reviews and rating directly there, rather than deal with the new IMDB User Interface.

48 pages (and counting) of negative comments, but hey, 6 whole likes on the article! Smells like success, don't it?

Replacing "Show reference view with full cast and crew (advanced view)" in Site Preferences with previous default layout would be great thing. Just saying.

@ACT_1

That's lot of work for IMDb developers. 😄

I understand why they need to keep reference view, because of contributors, who add and fixing data for FREE, their only reward is IMDbPro.

@plur62 It would be a great thing. Unfortunately Col's made it plain as day that the Powers That Be consider this new layout a "Huge Improvement" over the previous layout and they're absolutely never going back to it, even to offer it as an alternative option for users. In his own words

Our previous replies referenced above should hopefully explain why it is not practical for us to offer an option to switch back to an 11 year-old design though, sorry.

My personal guess is that it won't be too much longer before the new layout starts making its way onto all the other pages on the site as well and not just the home/title pages, and that probably includes the reference view, since they're no doubt 100% aware of the fact that many users are apparently using (or at least claim here to be using) the reference view as a workaround to avoid the new layout. Can't have all that potential ad revenue going to waste, after all... Though my head is now hurting imagining all those circular profile pictures and multiple columns of cast and crew...

@momur It is anything but an improvement - Clunky, slow, ugly, and not user friendly.

@Movie_411 And you'll get no arguments from me there. Within the span of 6 days, I've gone from a mere dislike to a genuine loathing of the new layout, which I'll admit has been exacerbated by the official (non-)responses to the complaints raised in this thread which range from friendly-sounding but filled with meaningless buzzwords to downright condescending. If it were up to me, this update would have been rolled back as soon as it became obvious just how few people were providing unequivocally positive feedback (so that's not including those who've said something along the lines of "well, I don't hate it but it's still not that great"). Unfortunately, it's been made obvious that this new design is here to stay and there's absolutely nothing any of us can do about it except migrate en masse to another site.

Maybe on a smart phone it's fine, but I HATE it on desktop

Oh, I've tried it on a phone. Trust me, it's not any better there. In fact, in many ways it was even worse - I genuinely lost track of the number of times I had to swipe the screen to scroll down enough to get to the actual information.

Right. But they seem to be purposely making it hard to navigate as that forces users to go to the areas THEY want and not what we want, making them more money. It's a particularly hard SLAP in the face from IMDB as we created their content. It's a trend new User Interface teams use to go against what is best for Users (violating classic rules of UI) and only care what most manipulates Users. #WelcomeTo2021

In the new design, everything is as much harder to find as it is bigger. The previous design was far more better.

Col Needham said "The new pages contain the same information as before..."

Yes, Col, it was like this:

Before:

Now:

Improvement!

All this reminds me of what happened to deviantart.com (which was bought by wix a couple years back)...same story actually, about redesign, but they went even further when they replaced categories with hashtags...total disaster of epic proportions...no wonder people leaving...

@tokifec741 very pertinent example, my friend! Btw I'm one of that "people leaving"... there then, and very soon here now...

Dear IMDB team,

I am an old user of your website on which i rely to get all the information to organize my on-growing 25000 movies library. I am finding it hard and sometimes impossible to get the information from the new page layouts either regular or customized ones! Please advise if there's a way to revert back to the old page layout or i will be forced to find another site for the job.

Thanks and Regards

@Col_Needham You referenced a past thread recently about the reason for the change. That's not why most people are commenting, at least after 6 weeks of this. If we filter out those commenting only that they hate that it changed and go back to the old one, you would still have pages and pages of comments about the actual design and all the elements in it. Not that there was A redesign but that it went to THIS design.

It's mostly about the changes themselves. While I personally would love to go back probably 2 designs ago, I accept that's not happening. The more important problem is that with the current design, there are so many elements that violate actual design concepts as well as impair functionality.

Why is part of the screen charcoal gray / black with white and which then switches to the opposite, why are there so many different size changes, why are the ads and videos so big even compared with every other web site out there (and collapsing them does very little), why the random change in the middle of the page to circles, why is the page slow in loading making it unusable for people with anything less than high speed internet. And every other thing people have been mentioning at least since May. It sounds like well before that in the trial period that people were also complaining/making suggestions that were obviously ignored.

Has IMDb changed to just IMDb officially and not an acronym for Internet Movie Database? I know some companies have literally changed their names to their acronym once they've shifted one way or another but people still know that company by said acronym. I am part of an association that did just that. IPI used to stand for International Photo Imagers. After many other types of businesses joined or changed their models (sign printers for ex.), that description didn't fully describe the association anymore but IPI was what it was known as throughout the photo industry so it made no sense to change it. That's what I fear is going on here. IMDb not being an actual database anymore. Please keep "database" in the title and have it be the most important part of the site/company. You can pretty it up with a new design but don't f' it up.

I have been using this site as a member for more than 7 years, and a couple years before before I actually signed up. I never felt the need to post about anything until this horrible site re-vamp came along. You could not have done worse..... I absolutely hate everything about it. VERY disappointed that I now have to find another source for movie trivia. Why?... just Why?

So now we've reached 50 pages' worth of comments expressing almost completely ubiquitous dislike for the update. In just under two months. In a way, that's almost kind of impressive.

The new design probably looks better for a graphics designer, but it is crap to use.

Typical awful modern web design.

Shame!!!

I often use IMDB through a slow RDP session. The auto-playing video freezes everything. It should be able to turn videos off.

@Taylor How do I disable the new layout? It is AWFUL. Thanks for your help

@Taylor

I tried that in the beginning, and it didn't work. The video were still playing no matter what I did with that option. On a slow RDP connection it was insanely annoying. I see that it is fixed now, however for me it is no longer relevant as I have switched to using other sources and/or the imdb reference view.

Please bring back the old design or have it as an option.

I want to get information/data, not watch a slideshow.

Considering renaming the site "Internet Movie Slideshow Page - IMSP"
