Is anyone else as disenchanted with the new look as I am? In the past we've been able to opt out of a new design and keep the old one. Is that still possible?

On a side by side comparison of Old vs. New, which version of IMDb presents the most information about the Movie without clicking a link or scrolling by the user?

Left is the Old version of IMDb on Firefox 52.9.0.

Right is the New version of IMDb on Chrome 49.0.2623.112.

The same page is presented side by side in the attached picture.

@mgrish The page on the right is the smaller mobile view, try making your browser wider and you should get something more like this:

Yes,, the one on the left is easier to scan and read.

@Col_Needham

Col Needham,

Thank you for your feedback.

I really hate to tell you this. I am running a UHD 42 inch monitor. My normal mode of operation is to have two browsers open side by side or a browser open and a word document side by side. Why? So I can be productive. The days of a 15 inch tube monitor with the browser fully expanded are two decades in the past. There was no problem with the “Old” IMDb fully displaying the content with the browser at half screen, a 42 inch screen.

So, image this, I have IMDb open on a browser with a word document side by side on my 42 inch screen.

I am going to write a review for IMDb’s User Review about the movie “High Anxiety”. In my review I am going mention the three main actors, Mel Brooks, Madeline Kahn, and Cloris Leachman. With the “Old” IMDb all I would have to do in plain sight is to highlight, copy, and paste the three actor’s names over to my open word document. No worries about miss-spelling the actor’s names; the whole process was maybe a second or two in time.

Now the experience on the “New” IMDb; the main three stars are not listed in plain view. You left click your mouse on “Top credits”. The star’s names appear. You try in vain to highlight the names to copy and paste into your word document. The star’s names will not highlight. You are left with a choice. You can type out the names long hand, you can click each actor individually going back and forth from page to page, or you can scroll down to “Top cast” with the arrow or “All Cast & Crew”, with a left click of the mouse a new page opens with the actors name’s listed in vertical along with name of the character that actor portrayed. Ok, highlight, copy, and paste the columns, now you have a big ball of information you are going to have to sort and edit on your word document.

The “New” IMDb makes the work load more than tenfold harder just to extract information for the faithful IMDb user to contribute back to your website. The New IMDb is not more productive for the IMDb user.

Listen up! The “Old” IMDb was perfect!

@ACT_1

Thank you ACT_1.

The "reference" rendition is the best presentation of pertinent information yet.

@Col_Needham This is how it looks on my laptop of size 1366 x 768.

There is not much information visible.

Give us the opportunity to choose between the new look and the old, as far as I can see, the old version runs behind the new, which shows up as soon as you want to see details. The new version is messy, slow and apparently made for mobile phone.

This is the 2nd post that I've read today complaining about the new version. Personally, I don't see the new version, and I don't have the possibility to access it either. The "sneak peek" doesn't appear anymore.

That is what I see right now:

@cinephile

does your IMDb layout still look like that from June 30?

@plur62

No, on the 1st of July it changed to the new layout. Presently, I use the reference view. I find it more practical.

I recently switched over to the new page format and noticed that certificates and run times are no longer populating at the top of the page at the episode level. When using the old page format, certificates and run times at the series level would carry over to the episode level if that information was not entered at the episode level. Is this something that can be applied to the new page design? Here is an example...

Series Level: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11861362/?ref_=tt_ov_inf
Certificate: TV-14 (shown at the top of the page)
Run time: 42 mins (shown under technical specs)

Episode Level: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14415708/?ref_=ttep_ep1
Certificate: not displayed
Run time: 42 mins (shown under technical specs but it should appear at the top under the episode title)

Sorry to have to say it but the new layout is awful!

Everything is too big and having a black background? Seriously? Black background is something a kid would do in an attempt to be cool or edgy. Fact is, black is hard on the eyes and makes it harder for users to read.

I appreciate you felt the need to make the site more 'trendy' but it is a data website not a shopping channel. Listen to your users. Give them the option to use either layout. I know which one I would use and based on the many comments I have read here and on Reddit, many others would do the same.

Nice try but 2/10 is the best rating I can give your developers.

"The renewed page is meant to make your IMDb experience easy and enjoyable"

Well it is no working. The new layout is anything but enjoyable.

"The refresh reflects IMDb customer feedback"

Are you reading the feedback on here and other review websites? The majority hate it!

"designed to enhance entertainment content discovery and navigation"

The new design is doing the exact opposite. Please listen to your users before you lose them to TMDB.

At the very least, give you users the option to switch to either version. The black background is utterly awful and hard on the eyes to the point of being unusable. Please swallow your pride and realise that it is a poor design.

Why are there no actor image or thumbnail beside actors' names in this new layout?

In the old layout there was and there's plenty of room to do that in this new layout.

These make it easier and quicker to identify the actors/actresses in movies and TV series.

Thanks.

@thewizardoz There are thumbnails in the new layout (see below).  It looks like you have a plug-in, possibly a badly configured ad blocker, which is removing them -- please see https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/general-information/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF

Hope this helps.

Well, in the web browser that I use, the profile picture thumbnails do not show up unless certain changes are made to the Cascading Style Sheet definitions that affect HTML image elements. I've stated this before, by the way. Seemingly it has something to do with the version of Firefox rather than the presence of any plugin or add-on.

@delmedia This^^... I just so despise the giant round photos. I also found the old cast list much better than what we've got. Amen.

The new mobile layout is terrible for PC (as are they all), who could possibly think this is a step forward other than the accountants who push it to save money and the (crappy) web designers who do the work?

Is there a way to force the older helpful and informative view?

Try and offer the old look for 5 dollar. That will give you an idea of how many filmfreaks that find the new look useless - and you will make some money.

I don't want to pay for the old version. I wish I had something constructive to add, however this new version is clunky and awkward. Is there an option to revert BACK to the one that was actually easy to read and review? This is just chaos...

I'm still not liking the new page, even your latest revision. I noticed that the new pages were taken off line and the old versions were brought back for a while, presumably while your devs worked on them again, but now the terrible new pages are back.

The nicest thing I can say is that the new pages are slightly less laggy than they were on the initial rollout. But my fundamental objection to the new layout remains: There is no useful information at the top of the movie/TV show pages (the initial view), and it takes an several seconds (due to loading all that JavaScript?) after I page down to see anything that is remotely useful or relevant to my interest in the show. This annoying delay irks me every time I forget and click on an imdb link.... and life is too short to waste waiting for a website that doesn't deliver requested content promptly (or getting annoyed by it's slowness), especially when there are other available alternatives. And it's clearly a waste of time and effort to complain or even provide feedback, as you aren't listening to the comments saying that this has all been an epic fail.

Bye bye IMDb... you were great while it lasted. But your latest makeover was too much for me! I won't bother coming back, whether to complain or even use your website any more.

I don't like it, especially the dark background at the top, it hurts sensitive eyes. Is there an option to turn it white again?

It's impossible to even read anymore. At least they can be happy with the looks as they've made every feature unusable.

Hate this design. Please bring back the option to use the old design... page is bloated. I need something more compact. Spacing is absurd.. Terrible just terrible.. and all this after so much feedback was given to you guys.. sad

Everything is all over the place. I loved IMDb because it was organized and easy to read. This is just a complete mess. Can you guys atleast have a way to turn 'dark mode off' on desktop version? It's so hard on the eyes. I did the "advanced mode" tip, but I'd rather not have all that info on one page and there's no user review on that page. Please make this new version optional? I beg you.
