IMDb Web Name and Title Subpages Redesign

We are excited to announce IMDb’s redesign of Name and Title subpages! In the coming days, IMDb will incrementally roll out its 9 redesigned subpages. We redesigned 8 Name subpages, which include a name’s subpage for bio, news, awards, and more. You will also notice a redesigned title awards subpage. The refreshed pages are meant to make your IMDb experience easier and more enjoyable by providing improved access to celebrity, movie, and TV content on any device and when on the go. The redesign follows ongoing site improvements and reflects changes suggested by IMDb customers, as well as our own in-depth research designed to enhance entertainment content, discovery, and navigation.

In the coming months, we will continue to update IMDb pages throughout the site. We hope you enjoy these latest and upcoming improvements, and thank you for continuing to make IMDb the world’s most trusted source for movie, TV, and entertainment content.

@ACT_1 I don't think they activate it on "name pages", rather they are opening it to "users" slowly. So if the feature was activated for you, you would see the "all" name pages with new design, not some of them.

To reinforce what mbmb said, IMDb has demonstrated in the past that software roll-outs are done not page-by-page, but by regions or other sub-groups of users. Evidence: they have sometimes turned OFF a new release until they correct something, and people reporting things about new format pages while others still see the old format.

Why does the biography page looks so different?  It sure isn't as useful/helpful as before!

I noticed that the IMDB once again updated their webpage.  However, it used to show under "Relatives" what they were, ie:  Siblings, grandchildren, cousins, etc.  Now they no longer show that.

For example:  Actress Drew Barrymore has multiple relatives in her bio at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000106/bio who have their own webpages on the IMDB, but they no longer say what relation they are to her.

Is this something that will be fixed or is this permanent?

@justin_6415368 Thanks for highlighting this.  It is a bug and will be reported to the appropriate team.  In the meantime, the information is still available on the main name page.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your feedback. This issue has been fixed and the relative notes should be available on the bio page now. Please let us know if you are still experiencing any issues.

Hi. What is going on with the list where you can see nominations/win by actors/movie etc. It it complete mess right now. Non alphabetical order and the look is terrible...is there some way how to switch it back to the previous version?

@jakub_7542677 - thank you for reaching out about the redesigned awards page. The new page preserves priority display of prestigious awards and, as part of the redesign, subsequently orders awards based on most recent nomination or win year. This is based on customer research and suggestions - but I have shared your feedback with our team for future consideration.

Please feel free to provide feedback and suggestions on any feature at any time. We value your opinion, and thank you for using IMDb!

Is there any way to see it as it was before? The new look is really chaotic :-(. I mean something liek when you check the actors credits, you can view it as a text as it used to be bofere, so is there something similar?

@jakub_7542677 - Like all redesigned IMDb pages, and by and large for all websites, IMDb does not support a way to view the previous page layouts. However, please feel free to recommend updates to any page features or designs - I will ensure they are passed along to the team. Thanks.

@Kevin_Powell I get that, but what I think is like, for example, if you view an actor's credits, there's the option of "view all credit (text only)" and it looks like the "old" way. Maybe it would be a good idea to do the same for the awards list. And also one question...why do I see it different on my computer (the old way) and on my phone's web browser (the new design)?? Thnaks.

@Kevin_Powell

Regarding "prestigious awards", perhaps it could be time to recognize that for example Cannes Film Festival awards are fairly prestigious. Especially if a film won the Palme d'Or, that could be prioritized and even featured on the main title page.

any suggestion please? As I see, many users are not satisfeid and to be honest it is a pure mess. Non alphabetical order, chaotic order of  wins and nominations etc. Can someone bring the previous version back? This new design is one of the worst things I've seen here throughout the whole time. Thanks.

@Kevin_Powell "Like all redesigned IMDb pages, and by and large for all websites, IMDb does not support a way to view the previous page layouts"

Except that's not true. I've been using classic view ever since the new design rollout years ago. So why are you saying there isn't a choice when there always has been before? 10 years ago the site was at it's best. A message board on every movie page, ratings able to be sorted by age, gender etc, and a perfectly fine and concise UI no one was complaining about. You guys are slowly driving the site into the ground by removing features people liked and giving us less choices. That will not pan out for IMDB in the long run. We want concise information with as little clicking and scrolling as possible, not bulky categories that look like they were designed for 80 year olds with sight issues. We want features the users enjoy to stay, not for years of hilarious and useful message board history removed forever. That was a sad day for the site and the worst change made to date.

Absolutely agree...I've been addicted to Imdb like for the last 17 years, but after the latest update I'm done with it.

When there are multiple mini-bios, only one is listed on new pages, is this intentional?

The new awards view is a catastrophe honestly. I mean you could probably make a point for the new design if you tried really hard enough in terms of how it is structured, but the worst is what has been added very recently I think that you include the photos?? This is just awful, clogs it up so much.Or that you have to click en extra time to display all the Oscar wins for a film (Hurt Locker for example), that it is not sorted by winners first, then nominations etc. Oh and the photo aspect also makes no sense for Best Picture at the Oscars because it shows one name only. In the aforementioned example, it would be Bigelow, but there are three other winners. It is just another awful change in view/design for this page. Pity. Although I am not even sure why I say so. It's not like imdb staff has cared in recent years what the users posted here on this comment forum. The only effect it will probably have is that you are gonna post all the producer pictures and make things even worse xD

@Horst Can not agree more. Still wondering if there is a chance to view it somehow as it was before :-(

This is awful. I just had to click extra to see Sam Raimi's directing credits because apparently he has starred in more films as an actor. Mathematics is not always the key, imdb folks. Just display it all.

What determines the order of awards within the same year of an event? It seems inconsistent.

Here for the Oscars, a supporting actress nomination is listed first. For the Baftas, a supporting actor nomination is listed first.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11813216/awards/

Here Best Picture and Best Film respectively are listed first:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887912/awards/

Here Best Picture is listed first, but Best Film at the Baftas seventh:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/awards/

As Horst said, categories won used to be listed first. If you are not able to consistently list the most important categories first, then listing wins first might be more consistent. When you are only displaying five awards by default, the ordering seems important.

Hi there.

I would like to leave a comment on the new award design. To put it nicely: it plain sucks. It gives me eyecancer; I don't even look up won/nominated awards anymore because of it bad looks. I definitely prefer the former version. So could you please change it back, or give me an option to change it back on my display?

They will not change it back. Actually because of this new design I quit with Imdb. To have awards list where the awards are not even in alphabetical order...no words needed. I have a lot of imdb fans around me and all of them hate this new design. Maybe if they actually care about our opinion it would be different. Like Wikipedia...when they redesigned the page, they gave you option to switch to previous version if you are logged in. But...not here. I proposed how they could do it, but i Don't think my opinion matters.

Nice to see I am not alone with my dislike of the new design.

In that sense I think it would be even nicer if the staff offered a switchback to the former version, of course.

BTW: when it comes to adding awards, this sure is an effort of an effort, jeez. The time it takes to load the entire list is stunning, and there aren't even all the festivals listed there are, think of how much longer that would take. I could add hundreds of won awards or nominations alone, but I simply don't have the nerves for that ordeal.

What is the order of events on the awards pages supposed to be at this point?

Much of it seems to be alphabetical, though Satellite Awards stick out. Towards the end the order seems to be more random.

When will the Awards page be displayed in alphabetical order again? Is this a bug or another in a series of "improvements"? Why are you doing this, what's the point of making things more messy? I'm really curious.

@plur62 It is a known bug, sorry, and it is on the list to address, however, the current priority is to complete the remaining migrations before returning to fix smaller issues (before all of the old pages and features turn as buggy as lists have now become on the old software, see recent posts).

I think it's easier to find the Winner this way. what do you think?
