Looks like a slick revamp of the charts page. Looking forwards to more updated pages like this one.

Hi @Peter_pbn -

You will see a floating button in the lower right corner of all current Chart pages. It (1) provides the opportunity to opt-in; and (2) links to our help page to learn more and provide feedback (via Sprinklr).

On the new page, that same button (1) provides an opt-out opportunity to return to the old page; and (2) links to our help page to learn more and provide feedback.

For more information on the Sneak peak and Opt-in details see our Help Article

I tested the IMDb beta chart page and must say it is missing my most important feature. The “seen movies” button.

I enjoy using IMDb to see what movies of the top lists i am still missing. With the new beta page that feature is not available anymore.

I dont want to rate all the movies i have seen. Im fine just checking them off as seen. Rating is a process that takes time and i dont wanna go back a rate all the movies on these lists that i marked “seen” over the years.

Please bring back the “seen” option in the new pages.

Thanks

Hi @Trausner -

Thank you for you feedback about IMDb and the "Seen" feature. The ability to mark a title as Seen has been temporarily removed from Chart pages as we expand and improve the functionality. You can continue to provide a 1-10 Rating on titles you have watched as well as view your completion percentage. Your existing interactions with "Seen" can still be viewed at https://imdb.com/seen/

@Michelle thank you for your message. I hope that “temporarily removed” means it will be coming back as soon as possible.
At the moment i can see a completion percentage, but only for the movies i rated. I understand that the IMDb team would prefer people rating more movies but for my personal movie watching experience that is just a very unlikely habit to build. I used to rate all movies i watched a decade ago but i stopped the process. At the moment I dont feel like rating every movie i watch but i like to mark them as seen, to make it clear to myself what movies i still wanna watch of the top lists. Without the “seen” feature, all those top lists will be a lot less useful for me and i will have to move to a competitor site that allows this feature. As far as i understand there are many people who share this sentiment.
i enjoy my time at IMDb and i hope this review helps you to return the “seen” feature back to the new pages as soon as possible.

Thank you for your services,

best,

Paul

The Top 250 is showing different ratings than the existing chart. It seems to show the normal ratings from the title page rather than the specific ratings calculated for the Top 250. This means that for example the movie at #11 appears to be higher rated than the movies at #8-10.

If intentional, it may be a reasonable simplification to not display two different ratings, but it at least needs an explanation on the page or a link to a FAQ.

@Peter_pbn Thanks, yes, this is deliberate and is in-line with what we do in the IMDb mobile apps.  It is a bit of a case of damned-if-you-do-and-damned-if-you-do-not though because we are exchanging questions about “Why is the displayed rating different on the IMDb Top 250 page vs. the title pages and everywhere else?” for “Why do some titles appear to be out of sequence in the Top 250 list?”  :-)

The link to the FAQ and the explanatory text is returning back to the footers of the chart pages soon; the team wanted to get overall feedback on the functionality & layout while things like this were added to the beta.

I totally agree with other feedback that the best feature of these lists is to mark whether you've seen them or not, which is a massive loss in this new version.

Please don't replace this feature with the number of films I've rated as I don't necessarily want to rate everything I've seen.

Thanks,

David

I like the new page.

However, I would like to have an option for a more compact view.

In the old version, I could see 10 titles on the screen.

With the most compact view in the new version I can see only 6 titles.

I will not go on a hunger strike for this, but a more compact view would be nice.

Also, the new version seems to translate the titles of the charts.

However the translation in Italian is in some cases a bit misleading.

The 'Lowest Rated Movies' is translated as 'I film meno votati' which I understand as the movies with lowest number of votes. I suggest instead 'I peggiori film' to stay aligned to the top 250 which is translated as 'I migliori 250 film'. Alternatively: 'I film meno apprezzati', 'I film con voto peggiore'.

Same thing for the 'Top Rated English Movies'. There I would suggest 'I migliori film in inglese'.

On the upside, I really appreciate that you correctly use the singular form 'film' (it's a stupid rule, but it's a rule).

Thanks,

ut

@Michelle, I opt-in for the IMDb Chart Pages Beta test. I have listed and compared the old and new chart pages.

The charts seem to be more different than better for me. PersonalIy, I prefer the old versions better. I like their compactness, the on-page "seen" features and sidebars with hyperlinks to the related top category lists of top in-genre titles. Those features, aside from the rakings, are key for me and I think the "old" versions are easier to navigate to get the information I want on the primary internet device I use to access imdb.com, an 8" screen Android-based tablet.

I also think the old versions make me want to and more likely explore imdb.com more. The new versions really makes that activity more difficult, provides less avenues to do so and less likely that I will spend more time on the website. The updated versions seem like they might be more readable on mobile devices and for older users with their larger print and cleaner spacing and generally look slicker, but both the movie and TV lists require more effort to get to the area on the list you are seeking. It might be better for newcomers to the Top250 lists seeing the lists for the first time, but it forces me to spend more time scrolling than I want and makes me reluctant to return to the lists more frequently. Since it seems to take twice or triple as much time to get the updated information I was seeking to get (keeping current on top-rated movies that I have not seen yet) and it makes visiting the pages more work. I probably will either stop periodically checking these lists at all or find an alternative way to get the information other than the Top250. My assessment it may look better, but it isn't better in a substantive way, and the functionality trade-off is too great, unless I am missing something.

I do like the retention of the different sorts and display options from the old versions. Plus, the ability to check a title for basic info without leaving the page is a minor plus.
