IMDB Android app image browsing flaws: Reversed image navigation flow (forces backward scrolling) + missing Grid View layout
Android users are still experiencing a major photo gallery bug and a missing feature that makes image browsing incredibly frustrating. This issue does not happen on the iPhone app or the desktop website. The IMDb Android app needs true feature parity with iOS.
Problem 1: Gallery opens at the last image
When you tap a specific photo card inside an actor, movie or show on Android, the app opens the image, but it positions the image at the end of the active image cycle instead of the beginning.
Impact: Because the selected image acts as the end of the line, you cannot scroll forward. You are forced to scroll backwards endlessly through old or less relevant event photos just to see the rest of the gallery.
Platform comparison: On iOS, the photo viewer works correctly. The image you click is the first photo in the session, allowing you to browse and scroll forward naturally.
- Troubleshooting attempted: Clearing the cache, clearing app data, and full reinstalls do not fix this. It is a core logic flaw in the Android app's image navigation flow.
Problem 2: Reinstate Tiled/Thumbnail Grid View on Android
Unlike the iOS app and desktop web versions, the Android app has removed the thumbnail grid view when browsing media assets. Currently, when you tap the main profile photo or poster of a movie, TV show, or actor, you are forced into an endless line list of images. Please bring back the toggle to switch from a list to a compact thumbnail grid layout.
Impact: For popular titles or high-profile actors with thousands of promotional stills, red carpet events, and behind-the-scenes shots, a single-file line of photos makes it slow and tedious to use.
