Zach Snyder's Cut of Justice League is listed as a separate film

The newly released 4 hour cut of Justice League is listed as a separate film called Zack Snyder's Justice League. Shouldn't this just be listed as an alternate version? I don't think I've ever seen a director's cut listed this way before.

@Peter_pbn

I guess that shows how poor the search is in sprinklr. I looked for it because I thought it had been discussed.

That's a poor answer. It means there is no standard way. Its just whatever IMDb feels like. There are many movies with significantly different cuts that are all considered alternate versions of the original. This is no different. It should be an alternate version, not a separate listing.

If the Zach Snyder cut of Justice League is as different from the regular cuts of Justice League, as the Richard Donner cut of Superman II is different from the reshot and official cut of Superman II, then this matter can be mitigated similarly, as it pertains to IMDb. I don't yet know how else to answer these kinds of questions.

In this case, the director's cut is slightly over 2 hours longer than the "regular" film, so the difference between the two titles is enormous. Therefore it seems very logical to me to list these as two different films.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but those 2 hours of footage are all just filler. It's the stuff that should be cut away before release.

There are other examples. The longest version of Return of the King is over an hour longer than the already massive 201 minute running time of the theatrical release. Until the End of the World was originally released at 158 minutes but there is a 287 minute directors cut (which is more footage than Justice league). These are all still considered a single movie. I think Justice League should be considered one too (and I wonder how much this is just giving the fanboys what they want by having it as a separate movie.)

Well, it sounds as though one movie contains the other but without being a sequel to that other, so I'm not sure if it counts. Also, one is not a shot-for-shot complete alternate of the other.

That may be, but it still makes for a very different viewing experience. That for me is a very important issue in considering whether or not a new version of a title should have its own page.
