What is the correct way to credit Leonard Nimoy in The Search for Spock

Leonard Nimoy has two credits in The Search for Spock. He has his normal credit for playing Spock, but he also has the very last credit which is a voice credit:

Elevator Voice                 Frank Force

So, it would be to credit him this way:

Leonard Nimoy                        Spock/Elevator                             (voice) (as Frank Force)

since the attributes don't apply to all characters listed.

This comes up from time to time and I don't think there is a great solution in the current framework. Has IMDb considered having the credits entered separately so that they could have their own attributes.

The site refuses to display your attribute.

I have no idea what change was made except for the fact that you added Voice to elevator which probably violates some rule in IMDb that it should be an attribute. Edit: I see it now when editing the page. That cannot be a good thing as there is no way a normal user could enter an attribute like that and as Peter says, it does not show up in the main display.

Also, this doesn't answer the outstanding question of how to add an attribute to just one of the character names.

If the same actor has ”normal” role & voice acting, attribute is not used. Based on the earlier threads, at least.

Right, that makes sense.

@eboy

This isn't just a voice acting role. It's a voice acting role credited under a different name. But, we should be able to differentiate which attributes go with which characters. This isn't a complex idea and is fairly easy to implement in a database kind of structure.

That's a good point, adrian, and this seems to tie into another problem in that IMDb treats miscredited names as alternate names of people to whom correct credits belong, instead of simply having two separate cast items (separate nconst hyperlinks), whereby one has the "(credit only)" attribute and the other has the "(uncredited)" attribute. So, annoying!

Hello All,

According to our higher team, in our Cast we list one item per performer, regardless of how many roles they perform. The fact that Leonard Nimoy is featured on screen in the role of Spock means the (voice) attribute is not required.  He is credited as both Leonard Nimoy and Frank Force so the correct listing for this, based on our current method for storing cast items is:

Leonard Nimoy  Spock/Elevator Voice  (also as Frank Force)

Sorry for the delayed answer!  Cheers and Happy Holidays!

As I pointed out 10 months ago in this thread, "also as" is not currently being accepted by the input system. I had tried to use that for this entry and it was rejected and that's when I remember I had brought this up earlier this year.

A ticket was also filed by Michelle in January this year regarding the name issue. As mentioned in that topic, an option is to use two "as" attributes.
