What image formats, sizes and resolutions are supported? IMDb supports JPEG and PNG images. Images must be no smaller than 50KB and no larger than 20MB. Both the image height and width must be between 500 and 8000 pixels. Based on the dimensions, IMDb may crop the image as necessary. For posters, to minimize cropping, we recommend a vertical alignment (i.e. portrait orientation) with an aspect ratio of 1:0.675. Additionally, while IMDb may accept low resolution images for older content, we recommend always providing the highest quality image available.
Regarding supported image formats and resolutions, in addition to the information posted above in this thread, to help maximize the display on IMDb, we recommend high-quality images with the following settings:
Format: IMDb currently only supports .jpg images. Resolution: We recommend image resolutions of 300 dpi or higher. Our minimum accepted resolution is 72dpi. Size: Images may be up to 10Mb in size, with most being significantly smaller. Our minimum file size is 50kb.
In case you aren't aware of this, IMDb also accepts .png formats.
Their software will automatically convert the images to .jpg, though. Also, if the background of the image is transparent, the conversion will make it white.
Apologies here - Michelle is working from outdated information.
We currently accept the following image file types: GIF, BMP, PNG, and JPEG/JPG. All images submitted must be at least 300 pixels wide. When possible, we recommend uploading images larger than 300 pixels wide to enhance the quality of the images displayed on our site. We resize photos to fit our image qualifications.
For primary images on your IMDb page, we recommend a vertical alignment (i.e. portrait orientation). The landscape orientation is not recommended as your image will be cropped to suit the portrait orientation. Based on the dimensions and framing of your photo, you may get partially cropped out as a result.
Hey - I'm having an issue with image compression. The top image is the original and the bottom is the result after uploading to IMDB. Have tried uploading image at both 72 and 300 dpi. Why is this happening?
Hey - so I've checked out both of those images and am not sure what's going on here.
Can you please re-upload the image in the highest quality that you have and then @reply to me here with a link to this image on IMDb so I can look into this further?
