Video Games Categorization

Hi! I'm adding new titles to IMDb for two years now out of my very busy schedule. But the biggest frustration I'm having is the lack of proper categories & metadata for video game titles. Video games are released for different platforms like Windows, iOS & PlayStation and have different genres than movies like FPS, strategy games etc. So due to lack of focus on video games by IMDb, video games are not being characterized properly as movies are. My request is that please now IMDb should add these proper categories for video games. It is just a one-time problem to solve. After this, contributors will properly format the games by themselves. And IMDb will remain as the hub for obtaining information for all kinds of entertainment titles.

Hi! I think it would be a great idea to add these features to IMDb, specially platforms and genres. I recently started to add new games and I had no idea what genre was suitable for a simulation game or a strategy game. All these features would improve the gaming community and it would be easier for users to add new games.

The application of keywords would have to suffice for the time being. Either way, it would be up to contributors to identify which designations apply to which video games and submit them.

Hello, interesting topic.  I was just thinking, if you're actually doing all that coding and making games software that is responsive and error free, why not have those organisations chase you instead of trying to fit in with their categories.  If you really are a good software engineer as you say you are, then I suggest forgetting about genre classification, and adopt the phrase 'genre free'.  That way you can be sure your product focuses on the more essential aspects and you can finally be pleased with your own effort.  Proper software engineering is a transferable skill nowadays, particularly if you actually do know the constraints associated with different games machines.
