Suggestion: Add Interpreter, Translator and Captioner as Credit Roles

Hello,

I would like to submit a development suggestion regarding the job titles available on IMDb’s credit update pages.

Currently, IMDb includes roles such as Voice Actor – Dubbing, but there are no equivalent credit options for Interpreter, Translator, or Captioner / Subtitler. This seems like a notable omission, particularly in non-fiction content, live broadcasts, and productions where accessibility plays a central role.

Interpreters are often:

  • clearly audible throughout a program, and

  • in some cases visible on screen,

which makes their contribution comparable to other credited voice and language professionals already listed on IMDb.

I do not believe it is necessary to distinguish between specific languages or modalities (spoken vs. signed). A general role category would already represent a meaningful step toward more accurate and inclusive crediting.

As an example, here is a program where an interpreter is clearly part of the broadcast: https://areena.yle.fi/1-72474597

I hope you will consider adding these roles to the list of available credit categories. Doing so would improve accuracy, accessibility recognition, and professional visibility across a wide range of productions.

Kind regards,Anitta Malmberg

Although they may not have a category of their own, I think many such credits are eligible to be listed in the existing categories, at least if they are part of the original version of a program. An interpreter who appears on screen probably belongs under Self, most other credits probably under Additional Crew.
