Several hundreds of harassing bulk deletions and edits

As pointed out in a few of my recent posts, namely one pertaining a web-series (already solved) and one about deletion from my filmography someone is harassing me by trying to delete anyone of renown from my titles (despite these people being credited), be it cast, soundtrack listings or special thanks (two categories most affected, naturally and usually). I assume that motivation is to prevent people from further "discovering me" on IMDb through known names and/or lowering STARMeter.

I am fairly certain that I will miss something in that list, but comapring initial submissions with what's left to best of my knowledge bulk edits were done on these titles:

Was this a recent purge? Very likely. Should I now re-check every single title monthly? Probably no, but I feel like I'm forced to do it now. Either that or we just ignore that there is a loophole exploited for years and very few things could be done about it. I really wonder what kind of explanation was written for those deletions since deleting listings require such.

At this point I think it will be fairly reasonable to just bulk reverse everything done from accounts responsible, because statistically amount of damage from them is very likely more than anything they did correctly. Assuming there is anything apart from these bulk edits, because I'm pretty sure that a quick check will result in these accounts only editing titles concerning me and/or maybe a few other people. I'm yet to discover any major tangents of this problem among my close collaborators, though.

Just to be clear, only the keyword "trash" (not "garbage" or any of the other synonymous keywords) is being used on your titles. I clarify that here.

@keyword_expert Thanks, my bad for misunderstanding. Will correct.

@MykolaYeriomin

I have cleaned up the keywords on the titles for which you are credited.

Here are the changes I made:

  • I deleted the keyword "trash" from each title where it had been applied.
  • I also deleted the keyword "home-movie" from all but 2 titles. I realized that "home-movie" does not really describe the plot of your titles, and you already had better keywords like "diy-film," "underground-short," "underground-film," "low-budget-film," etc. Plus it looked to me like "home-movie" was added to your films a long time ago along with the sabotage of adding the "trash" keyword, before most of the other keywords on your titles. In other words, it looked to me like someone added "trash" and "home-movie" in a pejorative sense. I did keep "home-movie" on 2 of your titles where it looked like that keyword might fit within the plot.
  • I changed "volga" to "volga-river" on several titles, deleted it from 1 title, and added it to this title
  • I deleted "diy" from every title where that keyword had been applied, since you already have the more descriptive and appropriate "diy-film" on these titles.

I hope that helps! Eventually I hope to delete the keyword "trash" from all these Russian and European titles where the keyword has been incorrectly used.

While "trash" and "garbage" are essentially synonymous, seemingly some small many people treat the former as connoting largely dry office waste (like paper, cardboard, pens, pencils, staples or tape) and the latter as connoting anything including fresh food, stale food, rotten food, feces or other organic mixtures, even at the residual level, with or without "office" waste. (The latter is able to produce foul odors, whereas the former isn't, unless somehow succumbing to mold infestation.) Might be a thing of jargon. Of course, we don't have a need for such hair-splitting precision in the worlds of literature and cinema, especially in regards to fiction.

@jeorj_euler It's mainly a post-Soviet thing. In the early 2000's there was a notion coming from Russian film criticism that there is a "trash" genre/aesthetic/movement in Western culture which was adopted as if it is something easily defined, despite having no definition whatsoever. Main components perceived as those meriting "trash" usually included kitsch, camp, low budget, genuinely bad production values and shock value. In short, Russian film critics would still talk as if Ed Wood, John Waters, Tommy Wiseau, Troma, some of the more stylized efforts of Tarantino and Rodriguez and low budget direct-to-video exploitation somehow fit into a category of sorts.

There is such a thing as "trash culture", but one of the first things written in a Wikipedia article with a reference is that it should not be confused with kitsch. Compare that with a Russian article, linked as a language variant.

Ripple effect was disastrous: at one point everyone was using "trash" or "trashy" with this incorrect meaning where I am. For some people it's nearly synonymous with kafkaesque or surreal, some use it for emphasis of low taste negatively and some do the same positively.

It's a dangerous and harmful non-term.

I view "trash-movie" and "z-movie" to be duplicates, which is why I have proposed to merge the former into the latter. Not that there is anything wrong with the term "trash movie" -- it's just that we should try to avoid bifurcating these two keywords when they mean the same thing (or close to the same thing).

Regarding the plain keyword "trash," the problem with this keyword is it can be confused for other things (like the keyword "garbage"), especially given the existence of other keywords like "trash movie" and/or "z movie" which should have been used instead. That is why I support removing the "trash" keyword from titles where it was meant to indicate "trash-movie."

@keyword_expert Good point! And like "z-movie" it's more of a semi-critical quality moniker than it is a developed genre or a movement for most of the world.

@MykolaYeriomin

I also edited the keywords on Sergey A.'s filmography (same changes as on your filmography), plus a couple more changes to both of your filmographies.

Here are the latest changes:

  • I deleted "amateur," "amateur-filmmaker," and "amateur-filmmaking" or changed them to "amateur-film" (except on titles where the plot involves an amateur filmmaker or amateur filmmaking, where I left these keywords).
  • I deleted "ancient."
  • I changed "transport" to "transportation" on a few titles.
  • I changed "moscow" to "moscow-russia" on a few titles.

Not a fan of bumping my threads, but along with this one, this issue just persists and I'm not sure whether to proceed manually readding.

Just discovered another side to that problem that even went unnoticed on the previous solved  web-series posting: a lot of soundtrack listings are missing, too.

I've said that before already, I guess, but it is still mind-boggling to me someone can delete that much without proper explanation and just got shrugged away. In my 12 years on IMDb deleting something proves to be a difficult tasks that often takes several attempts, especially on a scale like this.

On a related note, we have not been able to verify the eligibility of the credit on The Dark Knight Rises. Are you able to provide evidence of your work on this title?

@Giancarlo_Cairella Understandable, because webpage with an audio recording used in the movie finally went offline, after being there for over a decade.

Long story short: Warner Bros. and UJAM held a special event back in 2011 (Wayback screenshot of the project) where they used voices of fans in assorted chant scenes in the movie because there were aplenty, both in the soundtrack and diegetic soundscape. I know that I am in one of the latter cases, because at the time movie's publicists surveilled the project on IMDb 24/7 and basically booted anyone who was not in the paperwork in mere days (Nolan movies are like that). I was in their paperwork, because I've signed an electronic waiver under the same name as my IMDb's main name at the time, before entering with my recording. While they initially deleted my cast listing, it was greenlit in #130120-174849-091000 after trial and error (before that they okayed #120301-160745-975000 for music department) and left it there after I've formulated it in such a way that would put me in a particular scene. I was honestly surprised, because that appeared after like a month, or something - really long time even by 2012 IMDb standards.

I might not be eligible for a Cast credit because it's an uncredited voice work and it doesn't seem like I am eligible a rare exception (I often have hard time adding that in my own directorial works when I'm habitually uncredited as an actor). I'm yet to pinpoint my voice in the movie (although I'm working on methods to do that, too, if just for fun/closure), but I think I still might be eligible for music and sound department credits, because I have official proof in both cases.

For a long time my input was actually officialy online and in 2016 I did back-ups in case of the project going offline. Attached here via filesharing service are a screen recording of a page with audio, as well as the archived page itself, in a rar archive.

I was also in another similar event for Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), which was deemed ineligible for a voice listing. However here they even went all out and sent an actual confirmation letter that my voice is, indeed, in the movie without any need for covert operations and trial and error guesswork on IMDb. I have the files handy for that one, so here they are. If needed, I can also forward the letter from my e-mail for authentification.

Given that the whole point of both events was "you're officially in the movie", I think they're a least eligible for something (additional recordist is perhaps the most logical route), but that's not for me to decide. Finding my voice there, somewhere in both movies is a pet project anyhow, so even if they are not eligible now, I hope to make a better case at some point in the future. I know both are not remotely  important or remarkable for these two movies, but both of them hold a special place in my heart as I happen to be a big fan of both Batman and Queen. I did way more and was actually on set on Dau (2019), but I don't hold it in that much regard (although it was an interesting experience, too).

Also I nearly lost my voice over 10+ takes in both cases. I'm trying to never phone it in, even when I know I won't be recognizable, per se. At least the sound mixers heard that I was trying. :)

On a related note: someone deleted a picture from this gallery, added through a title scorecard. Not sure why, but there were quite a few stubborn attempts to delete everything regarding Mykhailo Hrushevsky from my titles, so there's that.

Several cast members are also missing from the same title
