Problem with TV "shorts"
Last year, there was a discussion which involved why How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966) (TV) was listed as a TV Short. I explained that it shouldn't have been classified as a "short" under IMDb's definition:
Any theatrical film or made-for-video title with a running time of less than 45 minutes, i.e., 44 minutes or less, or any TV series or TV movie with a running time of less than 22 minutes, i.e. 21 minutes or less. (A "half-hour" television program should not be listed as a Short.) If known, please submit the running time if we do not have one on record. Objective.
Since this program was made for television, is 26 minutes long, and aired in a half-hour time slot, it does not qualify as a Short for IMDb purposes. Instead, it should be listed as a TV Movie. I submitted a correction accordingly (#191003-032207-723000) and it was accepted.
But I happened to look up the title again recently, and found that it had inexplicably been re-classified as a TV Short. And so I've had to re-submit a correction to remove the Short genre from this program.
Why hasn't this been dealt with by the software? This is an objective criterion, not subjective. This is something that computer software can judge.
In other words, an algorithm like the following should be instituted --
IF the title type is "TV",
AND running time >= 22,
THEN DO NOT ACCEPT the genre "Short".
Please have IMDb's programmers put this rule into the software so we don't have to deal with this again.

If this gets converted to an Idea, please comment so we can upvote.
Hopefully it'll get implemented without needing to languish in the pile of Ideas ignored.

I noticed in one of gromit82's old threads that there were, according to the Advanced Title Search, 3,777 TV "shorts" listed as being at least 22 minutes long. That number is now 17,013.
I just wonder if this may be the result of software adding the Short label.

Hi gromit82 -
As the title you reported is a half-hour show, I have now removed the incorrect "short" genre. I have also taken further steps to help prevent this genre from being re-added.
Cheers!

I think this issue needs a bump. There are still 553 TV "shorts" that are at least 22 minutes long.
