Photos that don't belong?

I was looking at the photos for "Joan of Arc" (1948) [tt0040491] and there are several pictures that don't appear to belong there.  They are recent pictures of people such as Jodie Foster and Winona Ryder who weren't even born yet when the movie came out.  They appear to be at some event, but it's unclear how this event pertains to the movie.  Should I flag them?  Should I do something else?

Thanks

Hi @JC46,

Please refer to our Help article on how to report image issues to IMDb.

Thanks!

The help article doesn't cover this situation so I'm going to guess that I should flag them.  We'll have to wait and see if that gets rejected or not, which tends to be the case when I try to make changes of this kind.

Is there some reason you couldn't just simply answer the question?

@JC46 Hi-

After reviewing these images on this title, these were for an event that took place for a screening of the restored version of this title. In this case, we won't remove the images from the gallery.

Thanks!

So this situation isn't covered in the guidelines in a couple ways:

1)  What 'events' count as relevant?  To me, a restoration is too distantly related.

2)  What photos should be included from an 'event'?  Typically, when I see photos on imdb from an event, the photos will have at least one person who was actually in the title.  Is it OK to upload photos of people who just happened to be at the event but had no connection to the title?

Also, shouldn't the contributor of the photos have specified what the event was?

And now I've gotten responses from two employees who appear to disagree on whether they should be deleted.

Hello JC46,

This situations are covered under the Images Guidelines, in the section for Title Tags, you can submit the request to remove the images however they might be rejected as it happened. If an image is incorrectly tagged to a name or title or if a name or title is missing, please select the  option below the image and follow the instructions to make the report. When submitting a deletion remember to include all details in the comments section for us to verify the request.

I'm sorry but they are not covered under the 'Images Guidelines'.  All it says is "Event - A photo taken during an activity, party, or event associated with the title".  That doesn't answer my questions above.  To re-iterate:

1)  What kind of events?  What it's a movie shown as part of a film festival decades later such as the Turner Classic Movie Festival?  Can photos from that be posted?  What if there is a cast reunion at a comic convention?  Can photos from that be posted?

2) And who can be in the photos?  Can it be random people at the event or do they have to be celebrities?  If it has to be celebrities, does it have to be a celebrity that was involved in the film or is it good enough that they showed up at the event?

You can also see the section for Title Tags:

Title Tags

If an image is a poster, still frame, publicity, or event photo for a certain movie, series or episode, you can tag the image to the corresponding IMDb 'title page'. Please do not tag series or season posters with individual episodes.

In general, images should be tagged only to the associated movie, series, or episode title. Exceptions may be applied on a case by case basis for official; multi-packs or collections, posters or promotions. Images that are not associated with a title are subject to removal.

For example:

  • Award ceremonies/events where the person/s in the image are not attending primarily for the title
  • Images of cast/actors that are not directly associated with the title
  • Images that include people who were not associated with the title

In addition, any images that breach our image upload guidelines (above) may be removed.

So as mentioned we might want to keep the images, since these were for an event that took place for a screening of the restored version of this title.
