Make it possible to contribute to multiple episodes at the same time

Hey,

I have contributed to a lot of episodes the past months. I have frequently been updating info for multiple episodes at the time. Currently I have to go through each and every episode to update the information which can get both incredibly tedious and annoying (not to mention time-consuming).

Just today I added episode titles for 10 episodes of a show. And I added release dates for 7 episodes of another show. All contributions had to be done manually for each episode.

It should be able to contribute to multiple episodes at the same time (similar to how you can edit multiple actor credits etc). Being able to edit multiple episodes in one go would make it much easier and faster to contribute, which could also make it so that more people help contribute (faster). In other words: they can use more time on researching and less time on actual contributions (but yet likely to be able to contribute more).

It should also be possible to add multiple episodes to a show rather than having to add each episode manually.

Please respect our time and make contributions as easy and efficient as possible, after all, what is IMDB without its contributors?

For lots of data types, you can already change multiple titles on the same screen.
Start by selecting Correct/Delete for the data item(s), then look for the "Show Title" checkbox next to the Add Items drop-down:

Then you can enter the title you want to edit, as well as the data. Using the title constant (tt...) will get the right title immediately and accurately.

This does NOT help for adding new episodes, only editing data on existing titles, and not all data types have this option.

Oh.  That is the purpose of that checkbox. Not logical at all. They should re-do it to make it both more logical as well as much easier.

Credits can be added to multiple existing episodes of a series by editing the series page. There are limitations to that which I find make it easier to edit the individual episodes.

One thing I would find useful is an option to add an episode like an existing episode. Number, title or release date would need to be added to distinguish the episode but having the credits for cast and crew copied with a yes or no option for each and the option to add new credits would save a lot of time. Note that "episode migrate" has this for copying series level credits but that limits you to copying only series level credits.

Adding multiple episodes copying credits from existing episodes gets complicated when the new episodes do not have identical credits.

Adding an episode like a previous contribution would also be useful as would updating an existing episode to add many credits from another episode rather than having to add each credit individually.

The big problem with these ideas is that it becomes too easy to just copy all the credits without checking that they match what is on screen. For the series I have updated for the last few years the same names appear especially for crew but not always for every episode.

Tools that would help careful long term contributors could be dangerous in the hands of novices or those who are irresponsible.

Adding release dates to more than one episode of the same series at the same time could be made easier in a simple way. Instead of disabling the option of adding release dates on the series page, just require the selection of an episode in the form. This would be more similar to how adding credits from the series page works.

Yeah, release dates are a hassle, which is annoying as release date is one of the type of data I contribute most (in addition to actor credits which is much easier).

Before I found this, I posted a similar Idea to make editing tasks such as these which apply to multiple episodes of a series exponentially faster.  This one didn’t show up in the results from my initial searches.

Add ability to edit episodes from series page

@owenrees Regarding your last 2 paragraphs, not being able to edit episodes from the series page doesn’t prevent novices from being able to add the same credits to all episodes without first verifying that they should be.  It only prevents mistakes from being easily corrected.  When there are errors that contributors want to fix, there is no motivation to potentially spend hours doing a task that should take only minutes if you could apply the same change to multiple/all episodes.

And I just found this other similar Idea which I suggest voting for as well:

Add release date for multiple episodes and/or seasons
