Major Error in "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" Page - Confused with "Dahmer" Series

I'm not sure if this is the right place to report this issue, but I couldn't find any other way to flag it.

The IMDb page for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is entirely wrong. It mixes the description and cast of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story with this new series.

In fact, the Dahmer page seems to have disappeared, and searches for it on Google lead to this series instead.

It’s unclear if the current ratings belong to Dahmer and the page was then modified with this new series' information, but it’s quite confusing. Even the cast lists actors from both shows. This is particularly concerning as the page is currently ranked #3 on the Top 250 TV list. Could someone please look into this?

Hi @peppolone,

Thank you for reporting this.

I can confirm this TV series page should be combined with the "Dahmer" series, as it is an anthology series created by Ryan Murphy. The same is applicable for American Crime Story. However, the issue is here is that the title is incorrect, and misleading. We have therefore corrected the title to how it should be displayed, and will further investigate the page for any other information that needs correcting. Any updates will display across all IMDb platforms shortly.

I hope this helps!

@Ozzy

Thanks, that makes sense. However, even though they are part of the same anthology, these are two completely separate series. The first one, released in 2022, focuses on Dahmer with its own cast, while the current series is about two brothers who kill their parents. What's even more confusing is that under the cast section, some actors are listed as having appeared in episodes from 2022, while others are from 2024. The photos also mix characters from both series, but these are two completely different stories. I’m not sure if the directors are different as well, but this mix-up definitely needs to be addressed.

Honestly, I would have preferred to see them separated as two titles, even if they are part of the same anthology. It doesn't make much sense for this series to inherit the ratings of the previous one, especially since they are two distinct titles with different stories. How can they be merged into one? This isn't like True Detective, which always has the same title for its different seasons. It’s a bit like trying to combine the Vengeance Trilogy into one film entry. Additionally, what the correct title and description is that brings together the Monsters Anthology series?

Hi @peppolone,

We appreciate your feedback, however this is how the title will continue to be listed on IMDb. You will find similar examples in American Crime Story and American Horror Story. Both of which are anthology series titles, and have images from across all the different seasons. True Detective is another example that despite not having a distinct subtitle for each season, is listed on IMDb in the same way. The title for this series will be Monsters, and the description currently live on the title page correctly details what the series is about.

As for the ratings, the overall series rating is currently how IMDb displays ratings for anthology series', with the individual episode ratings making a distinction between the seasons. If you feel that IMDb should have distinct season overall ratings, we encourage you to post an Idea thread within the Community here.

Thanks!

I have always found the functionality and structure of IMDb to be accurate and well done. It's just with this title that I felt a bit lost, perhaps because in my language, Italian, the title refers only to the new series, while the description only talks about Dahmer. However, I noticed that in English you have fixed it.

Hi @peppolone,

Apologies this has not yet been corrected completely, we are currently still working on updating the title page across all locales. Once the page has been updated, we hope it is no longer confusing to any customer. Please let us know if you experience any other issues related to this title.

Cheers!
