How to submit quotes from deleted scenes (on DVD) if IMDb has no separate "Deleted Scenes" title for a film?

The 2019 DVD of the Magnolia Home Entertainment documentary "Toni Morrison: The Pieces that I Am" (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9358206/) has a "Deleted Scenes" special feature. I do not see a separate title listing for the deleted scenes. In such a case, can contributors submit quotes from deleted scenes for the "Quotes" page of the main title, with some standard way to identify their origin? Or, how can a separate title entry for deleted scenes of a given film be created?

Hi @PacNW_filmfan -

In the history of IMDb, it's fairly new that we now allow title page listings for DVD/Blu-Ray extras (ie. deleted scenes, featurettes, etc.).   If the quotes are from a deleted scene, it shouldn't be listed on the film's title page, but rather, a new title can be listed for the deleted scenes featurette where the quote can be listed.  For additional information on submitting titles I encourage you to review our Help Guide.

I hope this helps!

@Michelle Thanks very very much for your reply/solution! As a former journalist and longtime cinema nerd I really enjoyed tracking down all the needed data to submit a new title. My first attempt succeeded: "Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am- Deleted Scenes"! I note, though, that I was careful to submit the title to match other deleted scenes titles, that is, "Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am: Deleted Scenes." But IMDb has published it with a short dash instead of a colon after the main film's title. Is that difference worth correcting by some IMDb editor, or might it reflect an IMDb standard for when a colon is already in the main film's title?

@PacNW_filmfan When there is already a colon in title, "-" is used next (and then colon again if needed, and then "-" again if needed).

See this for example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19120540/

So the editor's correction was right but it looks like they forgot to put a space when correcting it. I made a submission to fix the space.

Hi, PacNW filmfan. Of lines that you would like to submit, do you sincerely consider them to be very important? Would they be helpful to most viewers of the movie? There is no established standard or common way of signaling that particular groups of lines are from a deleted scene, so this is something that would be indicated in brackets, possibly in varied wording. By the way, creating a separate title page is out of the question. Do you anymore questions?

Dear @jeorj_euler, As it happens, I based my question on reading a reply from an IMDb employee to a similar question 3 years ago, in which she wrote, "we do allow separate titles for Deleted Scenes, for example see: Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back: Deleted Scenes: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8924990/"; for the full reply, click here.

@jeorj_euler The employee who replied is @Michelle, BTW. After who knows who many years of using IMDb and submitting data since 2006, I was sure surprised and delighted to learn about the separate titles for deleted scenes just this morning. For an idea of how many such entries IMDb has, I just searched for "deleted scenes." Check out the results: https://www.imdb.com/find/?q=deleted%20scenes&ref_=nv_sr_sm.

And, yes, I consider the quotes I have in mind notable, amusing, and interesting enough that I took the initiative to log in into these Community pages to find out if I can submit them, and how.

Interesting. I don't believe I ever knew about the title pages for deleted scenes.

I guess they should refer to some DVD/Blu-ray extra featurette (usually titled ”deleted scenes” or something). Definitely a borderline cases.

Hello, again, @jeorj_euler, and back to our original connection via my "Quotes for deleted scenes" question: If you care to, check out the quotes in the deleted scenes from "Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am" which sparked my desire to submit them.

Okay. I appreciate the tip, PacNW filmfan. Also, I apologize for putting for the non-existent policy point that creating a separate title page is absolutely not allowed, as apparently there is indeed room for such an option. I'm not too familiar with ways and procedures concerning distinct title pages for deleted scenes collections (published via Blu-ray/DVD or the Internet and) corresponding to proper movies.
