Field Browser Downgrade

Today the field browser has received a downgrade.  When you add credits to a title and click on "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes." a completely different form to usual is now popping up, and the worst thing is it now only lets you select one credit per screen!

This is really not practical when I am adding episodes to a daily series.  I need to be able to select numerous cast members who are repeated episode to episode, and you really cannot expect me to press the "Re-check these updates" button for every single cast member!

I have tried on both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome in case it was a browser issue, as I know that this Sprinklr site stopped working on Edge a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, please revert to the original selection box, as I am still battling the previous issue I reported where you have to click through numerous times when doing a big update in order to get rid of the error screen, or sometimes lose everything because it will not go.  So cannot have this further obstacle on top!

Yes, I was just coming here to report the same issue.  Very frustrating.  I stuck with it for one episode but won't be doing more until this is fixed.

Since today the Button "Click here to copy existing credits from the Series or other Episodes Button" has changed. Since today its only possible to add one existing credit, than i have to click on Check these Update to add another existing credit and so on

I hate the new design of this box but I can live with it as things change. However, it's usefulness has been seriously degraded. Now, after you select a person from this box, the box closes. Once it closes, you can not reopen it by clicking on it again? Seriously, how did this broken update get rolled out?

And, if you are going to change things, can we make them more useful, not less? This box could use several updates, like sorting by clicking on the column header and being able to have multiple ones open at the same time.

@clematt1000

I've found a workaround for this. It's still onerous but is better than reloading the form. Click on another department's "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes", close it and then you can reopen the department you were editing.

@adrian I just found that workaround too so I hope it will work for others.

@Vande Sorry about this.  We have flagged the bug to the team for investigation (and thanks @adrian for the workaround).

@Col_Needham Is it possible just to go back to the old design? This new design doesn't address the major shortcoming of the previous design: the ability to keep multiple departments open at once since end titles rarely follow IMDb departments! In fact, it makes it even worse as now the box covers the entire screen and there is no possibility of more than one.

Also, speaking of the box covering the entire screen, this introduces a whole new issue. When entering large departments, such as producers and the art department, it is possible that the data entered from this box will end up off the visible screen and there is no way to manipulate the underlying page without closing the box.

Finally, can we get the biggest annoyance with this feature fixed? Why doesn't it open it to the season you are editing? This is particularly annoying this time a year where people will enter one episode for a recently renewed show so the box opens to a blank season that hasn't even started airing.

Edit: Ha. I hadn't tried this this morning but now that I see we have gone back to the old design.

Hi everyone, I am relieved to say that this problem now seems to have been fixed. Having spent the morning battling with this problem to add the cast and crew credits for a sitcom episode broadcast last night when I came to submit some basic details for next week's episode a moment ago the Field Browser was back to its old self and I could add multiple credits from the window without it closing.

Phew, what a relief!

It wasn't really fixed, right? It's reverted to the previous design?

Is there a thread here that details the changes implemented in this upcoming Field Browser enhancement?  There are definately some changes I'd like to see added/fixed in a new version.

Thanks.

Is there a thread anywhere that is talking about some of the recent submission system changes?  Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed several changes that have affected the efficiency of the system, and would like to know what problems these changes are trying to solve. They have had a negative impact on my submissions, but maybe if I knew why they were being made, it would make the suffering more tolerable.

@ron3 I don't know.  The worst one for me is the removal of the automatic capitalization of name submissions.  It's incredible how much time having to press shift for every first and surname during an enormous submission takes.  I mentioned this on my thread about the longest-surviving bugs, but that thread didn't take off and attract additions from other long-serving contributors in the way I had hoped.

Yes, I noticed that one a couple of weeks ago.  I wasn't too happy about it then, or now.

This past week multiple changes have made cast submissions more difficult.

The biggest problem is that data isn't re-checked after being "saved for later".  When you re-open a saved update, nothing is checked/verified (like before).  You need to hit the "re-check" button for it to be checked.  But not only that, the system doesn't remember any of your choices from the saved update about new names, warnings about cast orders, gender issues, etc...  You need to re-select all those boxes every time you come back to a saved update.  Very time consuming!

Also, when you come back to a saved update, the "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes." field browser link is missing from the page.  You need to "re-check" before it'll appear.

These are some of the changes I've noticed for cast submissions.  I can't imagine what other sections are like.

@ron3  Thanks for the problem report; these are unexpected side-effects sorry, however, per your question, the changes are part of the solution to a much larger problem, please see the thread @ https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/update-problems/61bbb63cadd924150d16eadb?commentId=624da291385d98640add99c1

I will point the team at your comments here.

This should be resolved now. Can you please confirm the same? As Col mentions above, we have been working to resolve the timeout issue which caused this regression. Hope this isn't a concern now. Please let us know if the issue persists.

Ngoel, yes, that particular issue (saved updated aren't re-checked when opened) seems to be fixed.

Hi All -

Apologies for all the issues with the field browser.

Following customer feedback, the new field browser will continue to open in-line for the “Copy credits” functionality to allow the main form to be viewed at the same time but with the improved style and bug fixes applied. These bug fixes had been reported multiple times and this is our attempt to address them.

We understand that you might have more requests for improving the field browser and we’re happy to hear them and build forward. For now, we’re sharing a list of the bug fixes that we have implemented.

Current Experience

Michelle, thank you for the update, and details on what has changed.

While it may grow on me, I'm not a big fan (yet).

a) The "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes" contains far too much white space and doesn't show as many choices before scrolling is required.  However, it is nice to see that the "Series" option has been fixed after many years.

Pro Tip: Clicking the "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes" text a second time opens it to fill the majority of the browser window, which helps.

b) On a mobile device, if you are zoomed in on the page before pressing the attribute field browser, it will open with portions (top/bottom, etc...) off screen.  You will need to zoom out on the page to see all of the selection options.  There is also too much white space.

c) In the attribute browser, if you click on a letter to narrow the results, and then click on the "Value" or "#" to sort the results, the previously selected letter (A-Z) is ignored, and all results are shown instead.

Thanks.

Hi @ron3 -

Thanks for your sharing your feedback regarding the recent change.

Concerning the sorting issue within the attribute browser, this is a known issue that still requires a fix.  For the mobile device zoom issue you reported, I have filed a ticket for the appropriate tech team to investigate.

Cheers!

I see now that this only seems to work on the desktop version, not the mobile version.

One upgrade I'd love to see with this (instead of this redesign) is that it opens to the season of the episode you are editing instead of the latest season (or even a future season that doesn't even exist yet).

Hi All -

I'm circling back to this older thread to close it out.  It is expected behavior that if you zoom into any web page it will crop everything out of view and so you have to zoom back out to see it.

If there is still an outstanding issue here, please let me know!
