DVD Release Date

I would like to easily see if a movie has already been released in DVD (blu-ray). For example, the same way there is a "Release Date" field, there could be a DVD Release date field when known.

Right now I end up having another tab open with Amazon.com to see if it's available.

I have to copy the items from my dvd wish list to amazon too. The German dvd release date would be very nice !

Really the home media side of things need beefing up, which would be in Amazon's interest, so I assume it has been mentioned. Amazon, after all, probably have the largest database of home media releases (back to VHS) and so the data is there, they just need make everything work together. If they could then they'd be able to offer direct links to the relevant releases, at the right stores (through the ASIN).

I'd love this feature. I've just moved all of my ratings over from Flixster and this feature was there. Made it really easy when buying DVD's off your watchlist as they came out.

Glad you bumped up this "idea."  I notice I hadn't +1'd it first time around.  I do the open Amazon tab thing too...it'd be nice not to have to do that.

To add to this, MayorDefacto, added this info:

...it should be noted that they've been there, done that. Up until Summer of 2011, there was a DVD details link on each title page that led to a page like this:
https://web.archive.org/web/20110505094420/www.imdb.com/title/tt006864 6/dvd
and
https://web.archive.org/web/20110202135053/www.imdb.com/title/tt012090 3/dvd
and
https://web.archive.org/web/20100804061758/www.imdb.com/title/tt012033 8/dvd

The information was scraped directly from Amazon so it didn't require much staff involvement beyond the initial programming. It was removed just as Amazon, a firm based in Washington, balked at collecting sales taxes for the State of California. I still think the removal was an attempt to sever as many links as possible between Amazon and IMDb (which had/has offices in Studio City), in order to make their case that Amazon had no legal nexus in CA. Some six months later Amazon and California worked out their differences, but the DVD details pages were not reinstated.
What usually dictates whether features are moved, removed or changed, is popularity of the feature (as in clicks to the pages).  Mayor believes that was mentioned as a reason the feature did not return...

I would also like this feature and find it very frustrating that you can't tell if/when a move is released to DVD/Blu-Ray or Instant video.  Major miss of this website in my opinion.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled DVD Release Date.

I Think it would be helpful if it showed dvd release dates near where the rating/cinema dates are
