The update form is capable of bearing as many credits as you want... ...so, in theory, you should be able to allocate the complete cast & crew of a Marvel film in a single submission. For instance, the following two approved updates (one of them with newly added entries only) carry 870 and 427 credits respectively:
However, Phil has explained the big problem with extensive updates. As the form gets more complex (particularly when there are lots of warnings), after clicking , the more likely it is that some entries are not processed (red background because of timing out) or even that the page crashes completely, with a high risk of losing all your work. Refreshing the page (which resubmits info) often overcomes the problem provisionally, but: a) It is not 100% guaranteed; b) It usually generates a duplicate/unneeded "saved update" (which you can purge afterwards if you want to); c) Some of the fields affected by time-out are usually missing/blank and need to be entered again; d) Same with warnings that were corrected/acknowledged in previous stages; if caught by the time-out, they are active again which, as a side effect, increases the complexity of the update form even more, and its likelihood of not being fully processed.
Once you've encountered a time-out error, even if you address all of the warnings correctly, the system is making you aware of the need of not populating the form much further because it's reaching its processing limit. So, as both Phil and Ed have commented, it'd be advisable to create a second submission for the remaining credits.
Nevertheless, here's a second issue (to tech team). Since you can control the number of entries, avoiding timed-out errors is quite easy for additions (you decide whether 50 or 2,000 credits will be in the form). However, leaving additions aside, trying to do a complete audit for corrections(update=ttxxxxxxxx:cast.correct.all/crew.correct.all)
can be hard without splitting up by some categories, and even doing so, some titles nowadays have a lot of credits within a same department (as I'll show below) and if you have to make corrections to many of them the error risk increases greatly (e.g. in most of the 319 visual effects credits of my Resident Evil: Retribution
update, the original contributor had forgotten to add the Company Name
[which is listed on screen as a heading] to the occupation). Yes, I could split up the credits in that department even further (say one tab for A-L, another for M-Z), but it's cumbersome and nothing assures you that entries are not partly responsible for the system overload. Perhaps the time for timeout (I don't know what the proper term is... ) should be extended...
Finally, as Eboy stated, some titles on the database have hundreds thousands of credits. Would you like to know which one holds the record? Taking advantage of this post, I'll try to answer that question (and pay part of an old debt) hereunder.
I understand that the following listings are boring, probably unneeded, and likely unuseful, but if only one person were wondering which film, according to , has the largest visual effects crew*, then they'd be worthy of being published and, AFAIK this is the only place where this info will be available at the moment
ljdoncel, interesting! Is this became possible recently? Because in all cases when I added titles I had to use additional submissions to have all the special thanks added...

Instead, I recommend submitting the title with a smaller number of credits (subject to the numerical limits on the new titles form).
Once the title is in the database, it is possible to make as many additional submissions as you need in order to add all of the remaining credits.
Or, if you want to add more than the usual numerical limit in a single submission, you can follow the procedure described at https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/contribution-information/contributor-top-tips/G24YJU8YXNN...# under the heading "Titles: How to add more than the default number of data for all lists". But that method only works once the title is actually in the database already.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
