Attributes for languages displayed?

I would like to know whether IMDb regularly displays attributes in the Language field, and if not, what the attributes are used for.

This came up with regard to the film Die 1000 Glotzböbbel vom Dr. Mabuse (2018).

As the filmmaker explained at https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/stuck-in-a-kafkaesque-and-careerthreatening-conversation-with-imdbs-help-desk/5f4a79fe8815453dba949c76, the film is in the Swabian German dialect (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swabian_German).

So I submitted the attribute of (Swabian dialect) to go along with the film's language of German as listed in IMDb.

As can be seen at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9098914/, however, the attribute of (Swabian dialect) does not display. It is stored in the database as can be seen if one tries to edit the language, but it doesn't appear to be shown anywhere.

Does this issue arise with other attributes for languages, too?

I don't think they are displayed anywhere. This is five years old:

Hi gromit82-

Thanks for reporting this display issue. A ticket has been filed for the appropriate team to review and confirm if this is a bug or an intentional display order.

As soon as I have an update, I will provide the information here.

Hi gromit82-

We have investigated this display issue and can confirm that when the IMDb title pages were redesigned, the removal of the language attribute was intentional as per our current display logic.

If you disagree with this change, you are welcome to post an idea thread with your arguments for including the displayed attributes and other community members can vote on it.

It's not a change; it's something that has been kept despite design changes and user discussion. As noted, I posted an idea thread on this issue five years ago.

I voted for Peter's idea thread before, and I posted my own version of the idea thread at https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/language-attributes-to-be-displayed/620d904816676377f2584fc2 as well. Hopefully people here will vote in favor of both.

@Maya "the removal of the language attribute was intentional as per our current display logic."

It's not logical for a DATAbase to withold/obscure DATA from its customers.

Marco: There are some kinds of data that IMDb collected in the past but has stopped displaying -- for example, laserdisc details, DVD details, and literature.

But the difference is that for those kinds of data, IMDb actually stopped collecting the information. For language attributes, IMDb isn't discouraging users from submitting the information despite the fact that they have chosen not to display it anywhere.

If nothing else, when someone submits language data, there could be a warning that says something like this: "Although you can submit attributes for languages, the attributes will not be displayed."

We can only hope a staffer will respond to this...
