AI generated bios

My question is this: if (in accordance with the established guidelines) bio submissions are to be "in your own words", how then can individuals be permitted to submit AI-generated bios en masse? It takes us humans (who actually spend countless hours to research and WRITE these items) many years to accumulate a portfolio of hundreds, or even 1000+ bios. This can now seemingly be accomplished by some people in a matter of a few months.

Is this fair? I don't think so...

@janusminoa Please provide examples of the bios which you think have been generated by AI and we will take a look.

I do not believe that it is humanly possible to physically write this many bios in such a short period of time. You'll be the judge...

Well, even though the mini-bio author contains only one name, the such a named person may have the full force of a small staff of assistant sleuths/biographers behind him.

The other thing to note is that quantity doesn't always equal quality. A few of the top bio writers really don't do minibios but in this case whomever this is didn't really write their minibios as much as they just submitted their educational background and/or career highlights as biographies.

Sometimes you won't even get that. A few of the most prolific contributors edit down articles others wrote, submit it and sign their name to it.

This is, sadly, very true.

As for the bios submitted by me: I used legimitate research, had it translated and submitted it. So, I am not AI. But, if, all in all, that still means that my contributions will / ought to be disqualified, I certainly wouldn't be happy about that. But you be the judge.

Yes, I am. One can see that by clicking on my profile, and viewing the added bio info.

Well, let me know what comes out of this...

Some are, sadly, obsessed with these ”top contributors” lists or ”badges” that really means nothing (sorry, everybody). Only thing that really matters is doing a good work with solid research and good info/sources.

I’m currently planning to do one biography and so far I have listened almost three hours worth of interviews from this person. I have still one hour left. Maybe after that I can actually write something that makes justice to the person. Why bother otherwise? To get some ”badge”?

@eboy

I couldn't agree with you more, and that may sound strange since I've just recently suggested a new badge. But you are right, regarding badges technically meaning nothing. I've reinvigorated my drive to contribute to IMDb just this year, and so, I always enjoy looking at these "goldies", as a sign of achievement - that is what they are, and what they are meant to be, and in that sense I cherrish them, too. I found it very nice for me, to see, just how many badges I did golden up this year alone.

At some point I would even like to get the Contrib. Helper or IMDB Champ Badge, to be honest. Why? I really like helping others out, if I do know how, and if I notice the specific Info needed by someone. Just as others have helped me, I'd like to give something back. You can believe that, or not. As you see fit.

Regarding the Bios submitted by me: As I've said before: if the staff feels that they should be deleted, well, so be it. I won't be happy, I'll just lay off the Bio submissions for good. Unless of course, they decide to delete my entire account(?)

I'm not sure if that applies to this case. What examples are there of fluff contributions?

@jeorj_euler

Some of them, like the ones listed above (4 Examples), I'll admit, seem quite cryptic. Those examples are made of data supplied by the bundestag (You'll notice they are politicians). So, I used those datas in order to have the demanded length, so they won't be too short. I actually considered corrrecting them with a little more details, weeks or months after I first submited them, but I guess that went under during all the other contributions I've supplied so far....

@eboy I could not agree more. Some of us write these bios because we are passionate about the subject and want to contribute to the general knowledge base. For others, it seems to be more of an ego thing.

And that is fine, quite commendable. I gave my reasons. I am having fun contributing. I don't see anything wrong with & in that. But I am going to lay off of the Bios, fine? (Just a couple, every now and then). My "prime submission field" is titles and plots, anyway. Adding new ones and/or filling gaps I find.

Someone from the staff please tell me how you intend to deal with this issue. I would like some closure on it ASAP.

@TheTigerInMe1980  We do not think there is an issue here. Someone mistakenly accused you of being an AI bot.  You proved you are not.  Case closed :-).

Please do continue to contribute to IMDb, thanks.
