Why the "Check-in" function is so bad?
No indication that the movie is in your check-in list when visiting said movie's page.
The only way to search through the whole list is to export and download the list, and use the excel program.
You can add a movie as many times as you want and end up with loads of duplicates. Since there is no easy way to search the list and no indication of checked-in movies, this is a cinch.

Also, I utilize a user-script (via Chrome and Tampermonkey) to color the title, and also get a mouse-over display of the lists to which the title belongs.
When I have added comments to the Checkin entry, (and if the Checkin was not recent) I find that title by using the Refine feature, starting with the release year of that title, and then sort the list by release date. With a custom list, I would put that link in the description of the list to reduce the number of steps, but here I bookmark that view of the list, and modify the url to get the year I want this time.
If the Checkin was recent, I just sort the list by reversing the List Order sort.

Your search method, though, seems overly complicated for my needs. All I want to do is to have a quick search by title. Now that I know about this badge, this makes it easier than exporting the list and searching it. Though I'd love to be able to go to a check-in list and to either use a dedicated search function or just ctrl+f in the browser (the latter is currently limited by the number of titles displayed on one page, which is 250).
