Updates to the Ratings pages and functionality

Today we have made several updates to our Ratings pages and functionality. We have improved the design of the ratings details page to give it a cleaner, more modern look.

We have also made several changes, listed below. These changes only impact the Your Ratings page on the IMDb desktop Website. You may find much of this information by creating and running custom searches on the AdvancedTitle Search page. For example, to see comedy titles you have rated, sorted by your rating, see this advancedsearch. Or, to see titles you have rated that are in the IMDb Top250 list, see this advancedsearch.

What did we change?

1.     We removed the Compact list view. This was accessible from the far right icon (see A in the screen capture below). The grid view and detailed list view are still available.

2.     We updated the “Sort by” dropdown box. It now provides the two most popular choices: Most Recent (previously called Recently Rated) and Top Rated (previously Your Rating). Sort by: Your rating, Title A-Z, Release date (US),Number of votes, IMDb rating, and Popularity were removed. See B in the screen capture below.

3.     We removed the Refine ratings filters options from the Your Ratings page on the desktop site. See C in the screen capture below.

4.     We removed the Find More Titles tab. See D in the screen capture below.

5.     We removed the Recommended for You section on the User/Ratings page.

6.     We changed the format of data in the Ratings Export. You can export your ratings to Excel by clicking the new overflow menu (the 3 vertical dots) above your list in the updated experience, and choosing Export.

There are many ways to find new titles to watch. IMDb users can use Advanced Search, look through the recommendations for new titles to watch under People who liked this also liked... on any title page, or see Top Rated Movies.

Thank you for your continued support.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why can't I sort my ratings by type/genre etc. anymore?.

I used to be able to sort my ratings by genre, tv series, episodes, videogames, or film.

But now I am only able to sort it by "top rated" and "neweste ratings".

Why would IMDB take away the previous functions? Why make it worse?

You can still sort by genre

 - Choose ‘Advanced Search’ from the Home Page search drop down

 - Choose ‘Advanced Title Search’

 - If you leave the ‘Title’ blank you can choose everything else that was on the left of the ratings page before including the various genres

 - Under the ‘Your Ratings’ section, choose the radio button to restrict to titles you’ve rated

Did you read the rest of the thread to find the answers how to do it as it has been mentioned several times

Advanced Title Search is not an good option, forget about it. It can't replace removed options.

IT works fine for me, and it does 95% of what the other prople have been requesting with only a single extra key stroke.  Any good Business Analyst/Computer Programmer would call that a winning situation.

I believe if they removed the ATS instead ratings and lists functionality, there will be less objections from users.

It's clunky, takes A LOT more effort (half a dozen clicks instead of one), and the end result isn't as nice to view because the poster images are smaller. I used to enjoy browsing my "collection" of rated films, that's been ruined for me now. Before you suggest bookmarking the search, I have. It's still more annoying to use, because instead of 1 click to change the sort, I have to go back to the search page, find yet another filter among the plethora and click it. It's just overall a massive loss in practicality, not what I call a winning situation.

Paul, what on earth are you talking about? It takes way more than one additional keystroke. It's one keystroke for each and every thing you want to do. Then if you want to further restrict you have to go back and start over and type everything in again. Even in your initial reply listing the simplest thing someone would want to do you list 5 steps. Don't be disingenuous. It is far more difficult to use, it is far more cumbersome to use, and most of all it is far more annoying to use.

EXACTLY! Why are you IMDB drones trying to sell us a bucket of shit and call it a basket of roses? Can you not read, can you not see? Your changes are universally reviled and, unless you're intent on losing your jobs when IMDB folds in future, you would, like a semblance of human beings, admit your mistakes and move on. But I suppose that's too much ask in this increasingly brutal age, particularly when someone like Paul tries to convince us that the new cumbersome way of doing things is somehow better than the old minimally useful way of doing things. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY! IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH! WAR IS PEACE!

We are pleased to announce two new sort orders on advanced title search @ http://www.imdb.com/search/title -- Date of Your Rating (new to old) and Date of Your Rating (old to new).

These can be used to sort all advanced title results, including obviously your ratings history and any lists, as well as general search queries.

For example, all titles you have rated in most recently rated order @ http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&my_ratings=restrict&sort=your_rating_date&vie...

All movies you have rated in most recently rated order @ http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&my_ratings=restrict&sort=your_rating_date&tit...

All 2017 movies you have seen in ratings order, detailed view @ http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=100&my_ratings=restrict&release_date=2017,2017&so...

That's great. I mean it. Adding functionality is a good thing.

But why, since you're supporting a lovely Refine dialog on every other kind of list, why can't we have that Refine dialog on our Ratings list?

Unfortunately behind-the-scenes ratings and lists are in different systems.  Stay tuned though as we are looking into options which would better unify them on the front-end.

Could you add the compact view and add column with voting date as it was at the ratings list?

I've found a problem. ATS within titles I've seen opens only first 200 pages, the last one for examples @ http://www.imdb.com/search/title?my_ratings=restrict&sort=your_rating_date&view=simple&p.... Next 201 pages returns 404 error "The requested URL was not found on our server. Go to the homepage »" and any next page in a row  returns the same error.

Thank you. Is an option like that available when viewing another user's ratings? (The 3-dots are not appearing when viewing other users' ratings).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled question about the rating system?.

Recently you change the IMDb rating system so now you can't see you ratings in A-Z, or is
there so way to see the titles your rate in this row!

This was very disappointing!
I've used this to find out what the name of the film I've watched was, and many other occations. Now it's impossible to go back without using hours and hours to click.
Please bring this functionality back.
It's a main reason to use imdb, otherwise one will have to make another list to sort this out.
The most important are sorting by rating and sorting by date.
If this is not coming back, I hope it will be possible to transfer this to an excel-sheet, though that really is no good substitution.

I just recommended imdb just for this feature.
Advanced search is just that - advanced. :/

Hey Col, you still haven't answered my question. How do I filter my rated movies by the rating itself now? For example "show all movies I rated 4-5"? This was possible with the "old" (better!!!) filter options. Now I have to go through all my movies till I am down to the ones I rated 4-5. That just a pain in the a** if you have thousands of rated movies.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why ''Refine ratings filters'' removed?.

This is insane,  how can i see how many of my ratings movie or tv show, episodes, video game? or when i looked a users ratings how can i check this user giving or not giving  rating to a movie from certain year? now i can only see users recent ratings..

2.   We updated the “Sort by” dropdown box. It now provides the two most popular choices: Most Recent (previously called Recently Rated) and Top Rated (previously Your Rating). 3.   We removed the Refine ratings filters options from the Your Ratings page on the desktop site. See C in the screen capture below.

I use the filters on my ratings as part of my job working in public library. I don't see how this is helpful. I was trying to pull up a list of all of the 2017 movies that I rated this year, but found that this is no longer possible. I ended up having to quess by showing all of my results and hand-counting all movies with a 2017 release date. I can't be the only person who uses their ratings in this way. Why would sorts and filters only be available for my watchlist but not for my ratings? If anything, the ratings and watchlist items could be integrated into one view (much like you would find on Goodreads for books) with the sorts and filters (and hell, a batch edit feature) in one place. If IMDb is no longer catering to the personal user what is the point of this site?

I agree that removing Refine options on Ratings was a giant step backward.

But I'm not sure you needed to hand count anything.
Advanced Title Search should have helped:
Enter Release Dates 2017 for both high and low
A few selection boxes above the end of search criteria, find
Your Ratings, and select  Restrict to Titles I've Seen
I would want a Compact list, and sorted by Your rating or Date of Your rating

Try this link:
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?my_ratings=restrict&release_date=2017,2017&sort=your_rating...

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDb ratings.

Yes, "your ratings" page now lacks boxes for selecting genre & TV/Short/film etc & year sliders. If anything they should have ADDED a checkbox for different decades which I  and probably other users would  find useful.

....Currently "Your ratings" -page has only two options to sort by: most recent/top rated... and the latter doesn't even work, at least for me at the moment.  Really weak.

I guess I'll have to access these features through "advanced search" then, if possible.

-

Having said that....
Under "my profile" ...clicking "see more" you can still select for example westerns that you have seen and sort them with various methods - which is good.

-

A suggestion:

I have longed for long time on actor's/director's etc personal page an option to click a link which would bring me to a list of their films I have rated.

....For example on Harrison Ford's page a link which would search for me all his films I have rated from best to worst.

I use this kind of search A LOT and always have to do it through "advanced search".

So how about adding features instead of removing them.... I double dare you.

-

Oh and one more thing... I really like the feature of being able to download your own ratings as Excel file (or csv).
That's probably the most important feature of IMDB for me at the moment. Advanced search is very important as well. I've already voiced my opinion on film review filters (get them back).

More power to power users. Forget mobile kiddies... they will switch to any site which is "cool" at the moment...

The one feature you mention is already there.  There is a link on each person's page where you can see how much a person's X work you have seen.  Unfortunately the list seems to be very random with no rhyme or reason to how the list is constructed.  It can only be sorted the way you (or I) would like, but you can currently see hoe many works you have rated for each person.  The link is buried on the right side of the screen.

Indeed. Thank you....

I had not tried the "new" version of actor pages, but coincidentally IMDB apparently forced me today (can't use old layout). No problem there, I think the new layout is good, and that "explore more - ratings" -function is very good.

Now if only the default for filmography-ratings would be:
you and this list-titles I rated-release date. Then it would be near perfect.

There's missing an option to arrange titles by my own rating, which I think is essential option to have.
...Note that if I (or someone else) see a list of titles I have rated then I'm not interested in ordering titles by general imdb rating but by my own rating, naturally...

It looks like the ability to exclude results from the Advanced Searches (ATS and ANS) was taken away a long time ago. Maybe usage consumed too much CPU time on their servers or something. Very unfortunate.

Perhaps because you didn't tap the 3-vertical-dot menu icon to the right of the title Your Ratings.

Elsewhere you posted
ironically, List view in Lists is no longer available
I'm not clear to what you refer. Perhaps Compact view? Yes, that's gone with the Dec 6 update. But a compact view (with only sort features, and the ability to add titles to the Watchlist) exists in Advanced Title Search. Plenty of lobbying going on in the thread to which your questions are very likely to be merged: Update to List Pages.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled user ratings export issue: "original title" vs. "IMDb display title".

Hello, before today the last time I exported my user ratings list was on November 29, and the titles were correctly displayed in my (Italian) language. I re-downloaded the list today (because of the additional votes I have cast in the meanwhile) and unfortunately the movies are now displayed under their original titles, which make a lot of them hardly recognizable. Eg. "Kimi no na wa." for a film known in Italy as "Your Name.", "Demain tout commence" instead of "Famiglia all'improvviso - Istruzioni non incluse", "Chugyeogja" in place of "The Chaser" and
"Hummingbird" instead of "Redemption".

Could you fix this issue and restore the user's default language to the movies in the list as to make the list immediately comprehensible?
