Updates to the Ratings pages and functionality

Today we have made several updates to our Ratings pages and functionality. We have improved the design of the ratings details page to give it a cleaner, more modern look.

We have also made several changes, listed below. These changes only impact the Your Ratings page on the IMDb desktop Website. You may find much of this information by creating and running custom searches on the AdvancedTitle Search page. For example, to see comedy titles you have rated, sorted by your rating, see this advancedsearch. Or, to see titles you have rated that are in the IMDb Top250 list, see this advancedsearch.

What did we change?

1.     We removed the Compact list view. This was accessible from the far right icon (see A in the screen capture below). The grid view and detailed list view are still available.

2.     We updated the “Sort by” dropdown box. It now provides the two most popular choices: Most Recent (previously called Recently Rated) and Top Rated (previously Your Rating). Sort by: Your rating, Title A-Z, Release date (US),Number of votes, IMDb rating, and Popularity were removed. See B in the screen capture below.

3.     We removed the Refine ratings filters options from the Your Ratings page on the desktop site. See C in the screen capture below.

4.     We removed the Find More Titles tab. See D in the screen capture below.

5.     We removed the Recommended for You section on the User/Ratings page.

6.     We changed the format of data in the Ratings Export. You can export your ratings to Excel by clicking the new overflow menu (the 3 vertical dots) above your list in the updated experience, and choosing Export.

There are many ways to find new titles to watch. IMDb users can use Advanced Search, look through the recommendations for new titles to watch under People who liked this also liked... on any title page, or see Top Rated Movies.

Thank you for your continued support.

When these changes were first implemented, whenever I exported my vote history it was not sorted by "date rated".  Nor was it at all obvious to me how to get my spreadsheet program to sort IMDb's UTC time format.

Happily, this bug appears to have been fixed.  When I exported my vote history yesterday, it was sorted by "date rated" the way it used to be.  Thus, exporting your vote history now provides a "compact view"-style list.  It's certainly not a ideal substitute for the compact view, but at least it's a workaround that works now.

Unfortunately my ratings list is too big  to export it. I always get error since it was 10k+

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Sorting "Your Ratings".

Why were the sorting and refining options for "Your Ratings" removed?

It was great that I could easily find the most recent release I've watched or movies I've watched that were released on a certain period of time.

Please bring these options back.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled problem with ratings.

Why i can't see or don't have options on the right side of the site on my ratings page, where i was able to choose to see just tv series I rated or movies or mini-series, or if i wanted to see what mysteries, horor or comedies i watched?? wtf, where is that??

1. Choose ‘Advanced Search’ from the Home Page search drop down

2. Choose ‘Advanced Title Search’

3. If you leave the ‘Title’ blank you can choose everything else that was on the left of the ratings page before

4.  Under the ‘Your Ratings’ section, choose the radio button to restrict to titles you’ve rated

Voila, same list as before, and while it requires a couple extra clicks, the list compliation is faster.

But it's not the same as before, as you can't sort that list by "Your Rating" or "Date Rated".

For all intents and purposes, you really need to export your vote history and manipulate the spreadsheet to be able to do anything useful anymore.  That's what I've resigned myself to.

Yes, you can sort by Your Rating. They recently added that to the choices on Advanced Search. But not Date Rated yet.

The fact is that before these new "improvements" the site was far more practical, far easier to use, and even far better looking in terms of pure aesthetics. And I am writing this after I had, let's say, "familiarized" with the new layout during these last days.

The Compact View is completely gone, and as basically everyone else have already pointed out, it is a total disaster. The Grid View and Details View were organized in pages of 100 titles each, and one could easily check for the movies they were searching for in chronological order, by navigating to the corresponding page. Now there is just one infinite list of movies, all on one single page, and we have to scroll down and click on the "show more" button dozens of times to get to find the films we need to. It's a much more complicated and time wasting process, to the point that I stopped doing it. I just don't open the ratings page anymore.

Another thing that I don't honestly think has been an intelligent choice, is that now every single movie card in the list have the "add to watchlist", "get showtimes" and "watch now" options. Movies that I have already rated, so I have already SEEN them. Don't need to see them again, so I don't need any of these new features.

If the goal was to get a more user friendly interface, especially for beginners, I think these changes you've made have had the exact opposite effect. They rendered the things difficult, annoying and impractical.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, revert things back to the original situation.
As of now, the user's ratings list have become totally pointless. And this is not good, given that it was basically the starting point for almost EVERY activity on this site.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Loading ratings not working properly.

The ratings tab doesn't load more than 1000 titles max for me. Plus it's very slow when loading +800 titles. Liked the old way better (Loading a new page per 100 titles).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled List category in viewing options of watchlist is gone.

Hi, i was just logging in today to see, there is no longer the option to view my watchlist in list mode. Since i'm sometimes looking up specific dates when i've rated a movie, it's very sad to see, this option has gone and only grid and detail view are remaining.

Are there any plans to bring this feature back in the near future or do you guys have any workaround? thx

Just found this category and have to add, what a poor decision. You're taking functions from your members, that made this site special for them. Please make the list available again, so we can see dates when movies have been rated.

Otherwise I guess you'll loose more people as well as countless ratings, for I think it's taking motivation from people to rate a movie, if you don't get the full advantage afterwards.

Stolen from somebody else above.....

 - Choose ‘Advanced Search’ from the Home Page search drop down

 - Choose ‘Advanced Title Search’

 - If you leave the ‘Title’ blank you can choose everything else that was on the left of the ratings page before including TV show, Video, Movie, etc

 - Under the ‘Your Ratings’ section, choose the radio button to restrict to titles you’ve rated

There used to be an option to filter my rated titles (ex. by genre, by year etc), but now there is no such thing.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled RSS feed for Ratings has vanished.

Hello,

about two weeks ago my Devonthink import of my IMDB ratings stopped working. I now took a look into it and noticed, that this url http://rss.imdb.com/user/ur37426916/ratings no longer results in an rss feed, but just the standard html imdb page.

What is the current url of the rss feed?

Or did imdb drop this feature?

Bye,
Oliver

RSS is no longer supported, sorry.  We can create this as an "Idea" for you on Get Satisfaction so other customers can comment and vote upon it.

Can you give an overview of how you were using RSS with Devonthink so we can consider this for future use cases?

You can do this via advanced title search at http://www.imdb.com/search/title

The exact query (which you can bookmark/favourite/save) is http://www.imdb.com/search/title?my_ratings=restrict&title_type=feature

And how I can do Most recent sort via advanced title search?

9 Messages

It isn't an issue of whether it is POSSIBLE to do via advanced title search. It is FAR more difficult and cumbersome to do so under any circumstances. It was FAR easier to simply tick a box and have it auto-update all in one place.  Now, we have to go back to advanced title search and redo everything every time we want to change one thing, like now sort by date too. Your 'solution' is essentially to  bookmark some insane amount of different querys in an effort to make it 'easier'. That's ridiculous, and not only is it ridiculous, but it doesn't even address every possible issue.

As you stated earlier, the answer to SSS SSS's question is "You can't via IMDB." Instead you have to export your ratings and analyze them with some other program. You've said all  along that the point of this was to streamline the service to have things in one place. You're doing the EXACT opposite of that. Where previously we had one location where you could sort and view all of your ratings however you wanted EASILY with one tick of a button, now we have to return to advanced title search and redo everything every time, or export the ratings to another program. Please listen to people and return the functionality.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Cannot filter Other Users ratings anymore.

One point I haven't found in the discussion about the "new" ratings page is: I cannot filter OTHER
USERS RATINGS anymore.

A friend and I both use IMDB and one usecase was
for example: He has 125 ratings of 2007-films, I have only 91. So I want
to see, which movies of 2007 he rated.

This was possible with filtering on his ratings page - but is no longer with the new one, and Advance Search works only with your own ratings. Is there a workaround for that?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Ratings list can't be refined - bring the feature back.

I don't know if this is up to recent changes on imdb, but I've seen it just now. I rate every movie I watch so that I can have an overlook of all the movies I watch and then the 'refine' section was really practical because I could specify what I watched from which genre, year or whatever. But now I just have a list of 500+ movies I need to scroll through.
I WANT THE REFINE SECTION BACK please.
(or is it somewhere where I can't see it?)

So they've removed the ability to sort my ratings in any meaningful way, but they really want us to try their magnificent Advanced Search.  Oh wait, I can't sort that by MY RATING.  I don't want to have to go year by year to figure out my top horror of the 80s or things along these lines.  Then I had to sign up for a third party website to address this, because IMDB is all about removing features now.  Strip anymore features and you'll be back to being a Usenet group. If you're going to mess with things, at least try and leave us with most of the functionality.

I think the site would look a lot cleaner and more modern if all the "My Lists" pages looked like the new "Vote History" page.  Compact view needs to be axed *completely* from the site, and I see that "My Lists" still has some filtering options.  They all have to go.  They clutter up the page and give me a headache.  I want everything to look simple and neat like the new Vote History page.  And if Vote History and My Lists pages were rendered by the same template, it would make things easier on the coders.

And why are users still being given the option of "Reference View" in the site preferences?  Anyone who insists on using "Reference View" by this point is just a spoiled brat who needs to be taught a lesson.  Take it away, too!

The site preferences will likely change in a few days. By the way, Reference View is great. None of that AJAX bullshit.
