Solved

There was an error. Please refresh the page

Did IMDb begin disallowing updates to My Lists, more specifically, the ability to add actors? Every time I try while signed in from Android phone using built in Chrome browser and no matter in Simple or Desktop mode I search in the add box and tap on a name and, bam, "There was an error. Please refresh the page" it changes to a pink rectangle with red font, no error code, refreshing does zero, signing out then back in does zero. Any team aware of this bug?? PS. You're no better than Fandango Rotten Tomatoes at this point I'm so sorry to share with you because they rank a negative ten out of ten stars for website usability.

@swtpete  Thanks for the problem report and sorry for the inconvenience.  We are not aware of any bugs here and there are no other similar problem reports from other customers so this is likely to be a local issue, sorry.  Please follow the steps outlined in https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF  — pay particular attention to the points around ad blockers, VPNs, and trying different browsers. Since you are on an Android phone, please also try using the IMDb app and let us know if you see the same issues there.

Let us know what happens along with device details such as make, model, Android version, and browsers you tested.  Also, please let us know over how long a period of time this has been happening?  If it is just today then let us know the time it started (and hopefully) ended, along with in which time zone you are located.

Hope this helps.

… and just to confirm this is not just one list, please create a new name list and see if the problem persists?  Are title lists also impacted the same way?

@swtpete We assume this was a local problem and the steps above resolved the issue since we did not hear back from you?

@Col_Needham Great idea and thank you- here are the results of the two tests.

1. I created a public list of people, successfully added two people and was able to save it and go back and see it.

2. I then created a public list of titles, I successfully added two movie titles, was able to click the back arrow, which saved it, and then go back in and see the list.

3a. Here's what's happening! I tried to add to the problem list a person who is definitely not already in a people list, thinking the error might be if there's a duplicate. Theory - Since the list is from long ago or began long ago, I need to scroll all the way down to the bottom to find the Add box .. For the above test list of people, in #1 above, the interface is brand new, without changing my phone browser mode, it is a much cleaner way to add people, and the box for adding people is at the very top!

3b. Is the only way around this error, perhaps to print my entire list of 229 people and comments, and re--start a new public people list because it uses a proper template or something, and old lists of either people or titles can no longer be added to?

3c. That is very poor HTML web development hacks, and that staffing department should be fired.

Thanks for your checking back

@swtpete There are (temporarily) two versions of the list editing system at the moment on the site. The new one is for lists with up to 100 items and this appears to be working fine for you. The old one is for lists with more than 100 items.  The version you see is dependent only upon the size of the list, not when the list was created.

You have two options:

1. Wait for the old edit interface to be replaced with the new one when we are able to get the new one working with larger lists.  Unfortunately this is going to take some time as there are some complicated technical problems to solve.

2. Install the IMDb app. We have made significant improvements to list support on the Android app in recent months and so we recommend you try it again.

Hope this helps.
