In Progress

The overhanging advert banner

The one that appears over the top of the title, then follows you as you scroll down a page.

I realise the site has to make money, but it's kind of a bit... in the way. Especially when you're trying to edit pages and it appears on every single one. Is there any way to get it to stop?

Also, for the last few weeks I've had to delete cookies to get onto this message board - no other sites. Any idea why?

thanks.

@MovieCat Thanks for the problem report.  The ads should only follow you as you scroll for at most a few seconds — are you seeing them for longer?  If so, this is not the intended behaviour and please follow the advice in https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF and let us know what happens.  Note that particularly in this case, third party plugins (especially and ironically) ad blockers could be causing the ads to misbehave.

For the Sprinklr issue, please clear the site data for Sprinklr as well as the cookies and this should at least the reduce the frequency at which this is required.  Unfortunately there is a long-standing issue with Sprinklr which means local storage tends to fill to the point at which the site ceases to display. I generally have to clear site data for Sprinklr around once every three months.

Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham Thank you. I hope I didn't sound rude saying this, btw. It does only follow for a few seconds, but I think it's the difference between using the site as a visitor and using it to edit. When it's coming up on every page and I'm just trying to add data it's a bit in my way.

As for Sprinklr, I've never had issues with it before, but lately I've been having to clear data and cookies every other time. Strange.

@MovieCat  You have a couple of options:

  1. The ad displays for 3 seconds so if you wait for 3 seconds before scrolling, it will not follow you in the scroll.
  2. As a Top Contributor, use your free IMDbPro account to access https://pro.imdb.com/ which is ad free.

@Col_Needham I might have to start doing that. It's such a different view that I shied away from it.

@MovieCat  Thanks.  We have forwarded your feedback to the IMDb ad team (and as mentioned above, the top ad will not follow you if you wait for three seconds).
