Show ratings adjusted to the average ratings of the voters
The user ratings page shows several interesting statistics about the user ratings for a movie. One thing I noticed is how some demographics seem to give better ratings on average. Younger ages allways seem to have higher ratings. Maybe this is just because I am younger and therefore would be more interested in titles that younger audiences enjoy.
To be able to meaningfully compare movies it would therefore be helpfull if the ratings were not just the average of all ratings but adjusted to the average rating of the user. If one user rates an average movie with a 6 then a rating of 7 is praise while it might be a critical review for a user that rates an average movie with an 8.
My wish would therefore be a tooltip for the average user rating and the "Rating by Demographic" ratings that shows the adjusted value as "x stars above the average ratings of the voters".
Imdb.com is allready the best source for researching movies, but this change would give even more meaningfull ways to compare them.

When it compares my ratings with the user whose profile I'm visiting, sometimes I'll see a title on one of the comparison rows with a rating that seems to contradict the comparison. That's because this page considers the user's average rating when deciding they liked something better/worse than I did. For a better explanation with examples, see this post: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/-titles-you-rated-higher-sometimes-not
I understand that your idea is to have a difference-from-the-mean statistic on the overall rating for a title, an additional stat that captures how far their rating for a title is from their average rating at the time they rated the title. I like that idea and voted for it.
