@KmcDow92 It is extremely rare for shorts to have box office grosses, but if you use the number of votes as a proxy of enduring popularity, then advanced title search can help -> https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=short&genres=music,documentary&runtime=8,15&sort=num_votes,desc

You can adjust the filters in the left-hand side to add further refinements, for example, adding an earliest release date, or you can adjusting the running time ratings.

For more information on advanced title search, please see https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/discover-watch/using-the-advanced-search-feature/GLUEUYWPQNPTEVPU

Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham I know shorts do not typically go to theatre unless festing, but how do you find out the gross earnings of a top ranked short on imdb, is that possible or is it private?

I am just trying to find the top music shorts earners of all time for research I am doing. Specifically jazz shorts... I am really bad at this it seems. I want to know how much they earned too, is there spy software I have to use for that, hope not...I am sure there is a service to find that out I would guess...but grasping at it here....

Kmc: I think the problem is that the data you are seeking was never compiled in the first place, nor is it really possible to compile it. You also have to take into consideration the fact that accurate box office grosses for feature films, much less shorts, aren't available back much further than 1982 or so. How many jazz documentary shorts have even been theatrically released during this era?

I personally have been compiling a list titled "Modern-day shorts released with theatrical films" which is available at https://www.imdb.com/list/ls072001581/ . To my knowledge, the highest grossing feature to be released with an accompanying short is Incredibles 2, which was released with Bao (2018)Incredibles 2 grossed $608 million in North America. Yet I don't think anyone would claim that Bao grossed $608 million, even though all the tickets sold for Incredibles 2 allowed a viewer to also watch Bao.

A few other very-high-grossing features that were accompanied by shorts were Finding Dory (with Piper (2016)), $486 million; Toy Story 3 (with Day & Night (2010)), $415 million; and Frozen (with Get a Horse! (2013)), $400 million. But, again, I don't think anyone would credit the grosses of the features as being the grosses for these shorts. These shorts weren't even advertised with the features.

I hope this helps.

@Col_Needham there are companies you can pay to find out incomes from anything...however, I am amazed that there is no list online ranking the top 5-10 earning shorts. I get it they are not features, but TV is TV.
