Popularity Rating

I have noted that one of the most prominent ratings when I look up a movie on www.imdb.com is (in addition to the IMDb Rating) a rating called Popularity.  I initially expected this rating to range from 1 to 100 but then I noted as I perused other movies that some are MUCH more than 100.

How, exactly, is this Popularity rating computed and what does it mean?

Thank you for your respoonse.

It's a ranking, and the number is the title's place in the ranking. The top 100 movies and TV shows are listed in charts:

https://www.imdb.com/chart/moviemeter/

As it says at the bottom of the charts, "Our Most Popular charts use data from the search behavior of IMDb's more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to rank the hottest, most buzzed about movies and TV shows."
