No more news on front page

I also loved seeing important news points on the front, it was to the point and allowed me to look further into the article if I chose, there are so many other competing movie sites these days to go too, I would have thought IMDB would have kept it there on the front page. The most annoying thing about these types of instances where companies change things around just because they can is that it puts the regular viewers off, sometimes people in positions have to justify being paid so they change things because they can. The idea of changing things to get peoples reaction is flawed as many people cannot be bothered to find out whats going on they just get annoyed and dont return back like I was doing until I thought I would Google it and this post came up. I have noticed that there have been other subtle changes happening over the time on IMDB, some have returned back and some are just annoying. Change can work but only if its a change that is going to enhance a site and create viewer value and not just change because someone decides too.

My preferred way to do innovation and redesigns is to allow users to change things back the way they were if they chose so. In this specific instance, remove the News section for all users but place (temporary) notice in it's place, telling users, that they can turn the section back on in the Settings if they want. This way site operator can do it's desired redesign, moving site forward, but keeping the old users happy. Good example of this is another Amazon site, Reddit. They did, not that long ago, complete site-wide redesign, but they kept the option for users to keep using the old design. But i understand that this way of doing things is much more time consuming and hard. Also there are instances where this approach is simply not possible, although this is not that case.

I agree, it would be interesting to see if the change was made in the first place because someone took the time to research it or they just did it. Making changes without responsible research can send viewers away and these days as mentioned before there are so many alternatives. What’s here today can be gone tomorrow. If we don’t look after our customers someone else will.
