I really dislike the redesign. Is there any way to force the browser to view the pages with the old theme? Maybe allow something like https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0870154/?theme=old?

It really is terrible.  Such lower information density, so much unnecessary padding, etc.  Also rounded images became trendy and then passe 10 years ago at this point.

Nobody likes this Web 2.0 garbage.  Flat design is a  joke.  It's almost unimaginable a 2021 site redesign would be doing something which graphics designers realized was terrible and rightfully left behind a decade ago.

Desktop/Laptop users don't want mobile interfaces.  And so much scrolling is needed to get relevant info.

I get that you're trying to make use of higher resolution displays compared to when the current version was designed, but the solution isn't to inflate everything.  It just negates the benefit of high resolution displays.  Suddenly I have the same amount of info presented to me as I used to on my CRT monitor 20 years ago.

The best reply I've read. The best description of the new interface.

After using the new page layout for nearly 2 weeks now I am still having some issues just simply finding basic information.  The new style just feels very unnatural and is kind of hard on the eyes.

I understand that there is no way they are going to go repair it and go back to the old style so I have to suck it up and deal with it.

Hopefully in a few more weeks either I will become accustomed to the new page or maybe IMDb will tweak it a bit to make it a little more user friendly.

Hi,

Why on main page of a tittle I see only a rounded number of votes instead of accurate? I think that this should be visible right away and do not force me navigate to the subpage /ratings. Is there a chance to change this? It is rather a small request. Thanks in advance.

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Rounded number of votes on main page of the tittle.

@dikembe1990  Thanks for the feedback, however, there are no plans to change this at the present time.   The rounded numbers are easier to read and are more accessible, also as you note, the precise numbers (and much more) are on the ratings subpage.

The new layout is simply awful. It's messy, it's hard to find anything on it.  And why did it start to translate the titles to local language? Extremely annoying.. Can there be an option to revert back to the old version? If not, I probably check-out what other websites could offer similar information in a more enjoyable layout.

@vendaa Thanks for the feedback.  We have been translating titles for 11 years.  The previous translation logic was complicated and full of bugs so it has been simplified.  It is possible you were accidentally subjected to one of the previous bugs and therefore did not see translated titles.

You can override the translations to always display original titles or you can choose a country/language pair from your site preferences page at https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general

More information is available at https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/general-information/site-preferences/GDL9NWJRKWRH5L6K  specifically:

As part of the "Title display country" preference - our registered also users have the option to choose 'Original' title display. The Original title in the Country of Origin - which prior to the previous changes was the default on www.imdb.com.

where the "previous changes" referenced there were the 2010 updates.

Hope this helps.

OMG. New version of this page is complete disaster for me. I'm still using old Firefox (52.9) which  i can't upgrade without changing the OS (It would take me like months to adapt my software to do so)

My english is rather weak, but in spite of this IMDB was for me favorite and most useful site in its category.

Now its gone. For example to watch the section "More like this" i have to scroll my screen several YARDS to the right and still only title and rating are displayed.

Who cares about users comfort and HABBITS ? Let's give them something NEW, NEW, NEW !!!.  Everybody loves to got something brand NEW !

And now i have to get new "movie site" for me. Without anger but certainly with regret

You have to upgrade you operating system? Are you certain about that?

I'm rather sure. And pretty sure that any smart solution won't help for longer than few months. Young and joyful website develepers will quickly find a way to make me use my 34'' monitor (bought because of poor eyesight)  as if it was mobile phone with size of postage stamp. And to give me same amount of content on both screens.

Or maybe soon we all will need a joystick or magic gloves to grab some information from the web.

btw. I'm just checking TMDB site. It uses the same annoying manner but at least works fine on my browser. Magic ?

WOW.

Finally I can see again the "old-style" title page. Maybe because my Firefox has been updated (rel 89.0 on Win 10)? Or, more likely, because someone at IMDB made the changes needed to bring back the things as they should be?

In this last case, thanks a lot.

@purimein It is your browser update. Any browser has a 50/50 chance of seeing the old vs. new design while the launch is on-going, soon enough it will be 0/100 for old vs. new.

@Col_Needham I get what you're saying about redesign pushback happening multiple times before, I do. Does that mean however that 100% of the design set in stone? Will at least some of the suggestions/complaints be taken into account to that at least some of this design is improved? While there are a lot of shock complaints here, there are some really good, intelligent comments. Please tell us this is a redesign 1.0 version.

@cougs No design is set in stone.  We almost never run the same version of the site software on two consecutive days -- there's almost always some part of the software which is being adjusted. We run a steady stream of experiments, many of which become permanent and there are bug fixes, both small and large deploying regularly.  However, the overall pattern of this design is set for now as you can see across multiple pages which are using the pattern and running the new technology: home, watch, videos, photos, and now titles

Note I am referring to the software and layout here -- the content changes by the minute with nearly one million updates per week.

Hope this helps.

The redesigns of those other page models are not as bothersome, though. On the other hand, I never thought very approvingly about how the "Edit tags" button and the "Report" button where changed into icons. I suppose, I should be happy that IMDb image slide pages load no slower than before.

I used to add comments while checking in a movie on IMDB.
But I can't anymore, the comment option seems to be gone now.
Or am I missing it somehow?

Workaround: Edit the Check-in list, and add your comment there.

I know that's not nearly as convenient as the prior functionality.

I have a folder of "IMDb edit URLs" on my bookmarks bar so I can do that with any of my lists.

An IMDb employee would need to answer whether the direct-comment functionality is returning.

@bderoes Thanks for the workaround -- you beat us to the reply there. It also very easy to add notes post-check-in to your check-in list via the IMDb iOS app.

@alpanesen You can still check-in from the title page by adding the title to your Check-ins list, but we no longer support adding a note at the time of check-in, sorry.

@bderoes thanks for the help!

@Col_Needham thanks for the answer. but maybe you should consider supporting it again :) since it was a very helpful tool.

Can you please have a selection for producing a LOW BANDWIDTH page, please! I have a 100mb internet connection and this site is the slowest loading website of any I visit regularly only to have your latest update slow things down further. My typical page load times are now getting into the 15-30+ second range  for an informational site this is really pushing the issue. No one needs to have an on-demand video trailer auto-load and PLAY on each movie/title lookup. My ideal IMDb information page would have: A Movie Poster, Title, Genre list, Actor List, Director(s) list, and go from there. I'm not looking for IMDb to replace Netflix, Amazon, or another streaming service but it seems like you're really trying hard to push as much video content as they do, if not more...

I agree! It's now the same lame loading page in the browser like in the (android) app! Can you do something about it, @Col_Needham ? Maybe a version with less pictures/videos loading for the m.imdb.com subdomain?

The new version is a cluster F... in my opinion. I find the "reference view with full cast and crew (advanced view)" to be more useable.

In this view where are these items:

Available - such as the link to Amazon or others sites???

Add to Watchlist? I cannot find to add something to "Movies I've seen" or such.

thx

Well, there is an "add to watchlist" button in Title Reference View, and it appears with plus sign emblem just to the right of where the movie's main poster appears and to the left of where the work's title and work's calendar release year appear.

I deleted my previous reply to jeorj_euler as I had forgotten to swap back to the simple Title Reference view. He is correct about the "add to watchlist".

What I am looking for is the way to add "To Movies I've Seen"

Nor is there a link to Amazon or Hulu or Youtube.

thx

Link to Amazon? That's not a feature of Title Reference View. I do, however, personally run a monkey script that fetches and displays the Watch Options information on all the the pages that display the Quick Links sidebar, meaning that I will get to see it in the title image gallery, title trivia section, the title FAQ section, the title parents guide, etc. I've tried suggesting that this be made the experience for all visitors to IMDb, but Col Needham claims that implementing it would violate some kind of "deal" he made with folks who had always preferred Title Combined View, as it was. I've noticed that he makes a lot of statements that would benefit from further clarification.

The Movie Database site is definitely better than this imdb version - all the video, trailers etc are available but not taking over the entire page punching you in the face. It's not as good as the old imdb version but it's in the middle and still much easier to find the info you're looking for.The mobile site is just as easy.

If you want to make lists, comment, etc are available too if you sign up and log in which is free. I don't know if it's what people that do that are looking for since I'm usually just looking for cast, crew, etc which is easy to find. imdb should take a lesson. After all imdb is  supposed to be a 'database," isn't it?

Thank you everyone who mentioned it, now I know it exists! Also, I either never knew or blocked out of my mind that imdb sold out to the devil himself.

It sucks -

now my eyes dart all over the place just to see the cast...

what is wrong with having it as it was -  the cast all on one line?

PLEASE RETURN AS WAS

You could switch to Title Reference View for the time being, but you might find yourself bombarded with the transcription of the entirety of a movie's end credits sequence, which might be unfortunate for you.

Dear Sirs,

I'm excited to announce that new design is horrible. Not only wasted space (who likes all those rounded faces?), but information is no  more at hand. Now we have to click here and there to see data that were previously in sight, scroll pages, and so on.

User unfriendliness is the keyword for such a new design.

Who the heck got this insane idea?

Please revert to a more useful look & design.

I've now spent a few days with the new site. Still don't like it. Maybe it needs even more improving. Nothing flashes at the moment. Have you considered using many more fonts, and maybe every letter in some of the words could be a different colour? Hey, maybe even all at the same time?

More seriously, it seems from this thread that very few people have a good word for the new look. I don't really expect anyone to do anything much about it (and heaven forbid that this new release is just rolled back for desktop users) because despite what they might say, global companies don't usually give a ***p about what the punters think. I would ask though, that when in a couple of years the guys from marketing or whoever try to justify their existence by having another redesign to give the site a "fresh new look" or whatever that you try not to ***k it up even more.
